Oh, Maitreya Bodhisattva, in the manner of "not experienced by others," established the uncommon stages of the Mahayana path. Therefore, the actual realization of a Bodhisattva itself must be divided into three types of realization for the three vehicles, thus establishing the assertion that Shravakas do not realize the absence of self of phenomena. So, what is the necessity of establishing the realization of the Mahayana itself as three types of realization? Subhuti, Bodhisattvas should generate all paths, what is the Shravaka path, what is the Pratyekabuddha path, and what is the Buddha path, and should know all paths. Because it is necessary to separately know the objects and aspects of these three paths of path-knowledge, at that time, realizing the aggregates of appropriation as unreal is included within the realization of the absence of self of persons, and then divided into the absence of self of phenomena, so it is necessary to establish the difference in the views of the three vehicles. Fourth, if Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas realize the aggregates of appropriation as unreal, then it contradicts the statement that "it is one-sided and diverse." If you ask this, because the realization of its meaning is one-sided, it has already been explained that apart from realizing the unreal nature of the aggregates of appropriation, there is no realization of all absence of self of phenomena, so why look for faults? If the path of seeing of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas realizes the unborn, then the wisdom that realizes the sixteen aspects such as impermanence is said to be the type of realization of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas in both sutras and treatises, and thinking this is contradictory. That is because it is not the way of seeing the realm of equipoise, but the freedom of the subsequent determination. As the teacher said, "By having an object itself, the realizations such as the first fruit are different." If you think that this is also the freedom of equipoise, that is not right. Because the meaning of having an object is having attachment, there is no manifest attachment in the seeing and meditating equipoise of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Otherwise, the seeing and meditating equipoise of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas would have differences in the types of realization, because this is a treatise that shows the different types of realization such as the first fruit. If you admit it, then in the Ornament of Clear Realization, the reason for showing the path of meditation of Shravakas with the metaphor of sesame seeds is that there is no difference in the types of seeing and meditating realization, but there is a difference in abilities, why is it not contradictory?

Now, if one thinks they are the same, they are not the same. This is because here, under the control of the subsequent cognition, some of the cognitions led by meditative equipoise are clinging to the appearance of impermanence, some are clinging to the appearance of suffering, and so on, because they are of different types. For the Great Vehicle, it is not the same, because all the cognitions led by meditative equipoise through its own power have the aspect of being free from elaboration, because they are of the same type. Fifth, some scholars who do not understand this system identify the understanding of the selflessness of phenomena as one, and claim that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers realize it in the system of Nagarjuna, but do not realize it in the system of Maitreya, thus it would be a slander against either one. Some scholars claim that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers do not realize the selflessness of the aggregates in either system, so when applying it to the works of Nagarjuna, only a distorted explanation is needed. Tsongkhapa believes that both the Great and Small Vehicles equally realize the reality of all phenomena, so there is no difference in view, which would be a slander against the Great Vehicle's view and conduct, which is like the sky, and also contradicts the difference between the complete and extensive realization of the selflessness of phenomena in the works of Maitreya and his son. The response to this is that if one says that the object to be proven, the selflessness of phenomena, is the same, but there is a difference in realization due to the proofs being extensive or concise, then the sharp and dull faculties of the Great and Small Vehicles would be reversed. If one explains it in terms of the ability to eliminate obscurations, then the object to be abandoned, the clinging to true existence, is the same, the Hearers can eliminate it in three lifetimes because of their quick diligence, while the Bodhisattvas cannot eliminate it for two countless eons, why is this not contradictory? Even if one does not realize the selflessness of the aggregates, the Hearer's two schools believe that all three vehicles have a direct realization of the selflessness of persons included in the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, if one does not understand this, one will think that there are such persons in the Madhyamaka system as well, and although this person has abandoned the manifest afflictions that operate in the three realms, but because he has not abandoned the seeds of affliction, he applies the verse from the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds, "The root of the doctrine is the monk, even the monk himself is difficult to abide," to this.
