Now, again, there is karma, and from that, there is birth. The three paths are without beginning, end, or middle. The wheel of samsara is like a firebrand's circle. Like a wheel, mutually caused, this becomes samsara. Because one does not see self and other, both, and the three times, the clinging to self will be exhausted, and then karma and birth will also cease. As it is said, and in the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness": "Whatever truly conceives of things born from causes and conditions, the Teacher said that is ignorance, and from that, the twelve branches arise." Thus, if there is a clinging to truth that clings to the aggregates as true, then there arises the innate clinging to self that clings to a person as true, and from that, samsara arises. Therefore, to abandon samsara, it is necessary to realize that the aggregates are without inherent existence. Furthermore, in the "Precious Garland": "Form, too, is ultimately meaningless. Consciousness, feeling, perception, and formations, all of them, individually, have no true meaning. In the ultimate sense, they are meaningless." After saying such things, it continues: "Having thus truly known that beings are without meaning, like a fire without fuel, without a place, without taking, one passes into nirvana." Thus, to attain the nirvana of abandoning samsara, it is necessary to realize that the five aggregates, which are the basis for imputing self, are without inherent existence. Thus, it is asserted that to attain enlightenment in all three vehicles, it is commonly necessary to realize that the aggregates are unborn in truth. As it is said in the "Precious Garland": "The Unborn is taught in the Great Vehicle. The exhaustion of others is emptiness. Exhaustion and non-arising are, in meaning, one. Therefore, be patient with this." And in the "Praise of the Perfection of Wisdom": "The Buddhas, the Pratyekabuddhas, and the Shravakas all definitely rely on you, Mother. Therefore, you alone are the path to liberation. Thus, it is certain that others do not exist." Thus it is said. However, the difference in the views of the Great and Small Vehicles is extremely great, because they believe that if one sees the Dharmadhatu spoken of in the "Praise of the Dharmadhatu," one sees the Tathagatagarbha. In the "Collection of Praises," it is said: "Without realizing the signless, you said there is no liberation. Therefore, in the Great Vehicle, this meaning is fully taught." Thus, the Hearers and Solitary Realizers do not fully realize the signless, while the Great Vehicle fully realizes it, as it is said. That very glorious Chandrakirti on the Dharma

It is to guide as a measure of whether or not one understands the expansion of selflessness. Although I have not seen a clear statement of the difference in views between Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, it seems necessary to hold that there is a difference in views as stated in the Ornament for Clear Realization, because that is the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra. In the commentary on the Introduction, when explaining the intention of the teacher, it is also said that these (Bodhisattvas) are superior to the Hearers because of the difference in the increase of merit and wisdom, and because they do not have the accumulation of merit and wisdom, great compassion, and omniscience, etc., they are inferior to the fully enlightened Buddhas, so they are intermediate. As stated in the Ornament for Clear Realization, (Bodhisattvas) are superior in wisdom to Hearers, and inferior to the Great Vehicle. Third, in the commentary on the Introduction, the fact that Hearers and Solitary Realizers understand that phenomena are without inherent existence is established through six ways: relying on the scriptural authority of the Ten Bhumi Sutra, through two ways of reasoning, relying on the scriptural authority of the Jewel Garland, relying on the sutras taught to Hearers, relying on the scriptural authority of the Root Wisdom, and refuting the fault of the Great Vehicle teachings becoming meaningless. First, according to the Ten Bhumi Sutra: It is established by the statement that a Bodhisattva abiding on the first bhumi cannot overcome Hearers and Solitary Realizers with the power of wisdom, and can overcome them after obtaining the seventh bhumi. Because if Hearers and Solitary Realizers did not understand that phenomena are without inherent existence, then a Bodhisattva abiding on the first bhumi should also be able to overcome them with the power of wisdom. Second, in the commentary on the Introduction, it is said: Like the outsiders, these people will also not abandon all the subtle desires that are practiced in the three realms. Because they are attached to the self-nature of forms, etc., they will not understand the selflessness of persons, because they are attached to the aggregates that are the basis for imputing a self. Thus it is said. Third, the scriptural authorities of the Jewel Garland quoted earlier are all in terms of Hearers, and only at the end is it turned to the perspective of Bodhisattvas, saying: Thus, even a Bodhisattva, having seen this, will definitely desire enlightenment.
