La. The system of the three vehicles' paths is complete in each of the four schools. Therefore, it should first be distinguished from the perspective of the schools. Among the four, the Vaibhashika school believes that if one possesses the nature of an Arya lineage with undefiled mind-arising, and abides in the Dharma, possessing hearing and thinking, then one will diligently engage in meditation. The basis is to abide in morality, and when hearing and thinking are perfected, the way to engage in meditation is through the two: shamatha meditation and vipashyana meditation. The first is that those with excessive attachment meditate on ugliness, and those with excessive conceptualization meditate on breathing in and out, starting from there to accomplish shamatha. Having accomplished shamatha in this way, the second, vipashyana, is to meditate on the four mindfulnesses. The objects are the four, such as the body, and the aspects are the individual characteristics such as the impurity of the body, and the general characteristic that all are without a self of a person, dividing them into two and meditating. Such four mindfulnesses, completely meditating on the sixteen aspects on the four truths, if one meditates with small accumulations for three lives, etc., one will attain the Bodhi of a Shravaka. If one meditates with medium accumulations for a hundred kalpas, one will attain the Bodhi of a Pratyekabuddha. If one meditates with great accumulations for three countless kalpas, it is believed that one can attain unsurpassed Bodhi. As the Abhidharmakosha says, "Quickly, at the end of three existences." And, "A rhinoceros is the cause of a hundred kalpas." And, "That, for three countless ones, is a Buddha." Therefore, the views of all three vehicles are not different, because the five aggregates of knowable objects are established as true, so they are the same before realizing that they are unreal, and they are also the same in realizing the sixteen aspects on the four truths. This school believes that to realize the selflessness of a person, it is not necessary to realize that the aggregates are unreal. The view of the Sautrantika school is mostly the same as the former, except that if one meditates on the view of realizing the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, only for the sake of oneself alone being liberated from samsara, one will attain the Bodhi of a Shravaka. If one meditates in a realm without Buddhas and Shravakas, for the sake of manifesting self-arisen Bodhi, one will attain the Bodhi of a Pratyekabuddha. From becoming accustomed to the aspects of compassion in many lifetimes, the nature of the mind becomes the nature of compassion.

Therefore, having arisen from the desire to benefit beings, one cultivates for three countless eons, desiring to attain unsurpassed enlightenment. As the *Commentary on Valid Cognition* says, "Out of compassion, wishing to destroy suffering, one diligently engages in various methods." And, "Through various methods and many paths, through long periods of familiarization, the faults and virtues, the harms and benefits, become clearly revealed." Therefore, it is so. Here also, the three vehicles do not differ in their view, for they are similar in realizing the absence of self of persons, the unconditioned basis, and the non-associated compositional factors as being without inherent existence. However, they are similar in that they do not realize the other three bases as being without inherent existence, because they are accepted as being truly established. However, there is a difference in the way of realizing the view, for the hearers and solitary realizers have a smaller amount of familiarization with the view and are separated from the companionship of special practices, so they are unable to abandon the imprints of the afflictions. Therefore, they do not attain the ultimate end of perfect clarity regarding the nature of the four truths, while the fully enlightened Buddhas are the opposite of that. As the *Commentary on Valid Cognition* says, "Therefore, because their minds are extremely clear, they abandon the imprints of actions. The great sage who engages in benefiting others has this distinction from the rhinoceros-like ones." And, "Without afflictions and without disease, explaining the path is not obscure; this is the characteristic of their bodies, and through familiarization, they abandon everything completely." Therefore, this system also accepts that in realizing the absence of self of persons, it is not necessary to realize the aggregates as being without inherent existence. In the Mind-Only system, it is accepted that the hearers and solitary realizers attain the distinctions of their respective fruits through the same view as before, so it is accepted that there is no difference in view. As the *Self-Commentary* says, "Taking the example of the rhinoceros-like one, they manifest the state of an arhat who has abandoned all afflictions." And the *Bodhisattva Grounds* says, "The solitary realizer should be understood as being like the hearers, because they are the same as the hearers in the nature of the path." Therefore, it is so. However, it is accepted that there is a difference in view between those two and the Great Vehicle. As in the *Ornament of the Sutras*, the *Compendium of Topics*, and the *Condensed Meaning of the Eight Thousand Stanza Perfection of Wisdom*, the ten cultivations of the Perfection of Wisdom that are taught as antidotes to the ten kinds of distracted conceptual thought are also established in accordance with the view of the Great Vehicle. And this system has two kinds of absence of self, the absence of self of persons and the absence of self of phenomena.
