Therefore, in order to make those with inferior faculties abandon the Hinayana path and embrace them with the Mahayana path, their joy is aroused by benefits. The first two (Hinayana paths) are taught to those who are temporarily unable to enter the Mahayana path, so there is no need to arouse their joy with benefits. So, the Bodhisattva's path of meditation, in the initial stage of key instructions, there is no difference between the path of seeing and the types of realization; in the stage of accumulating merit, there are the accumulations of the grounds and the accumulations of antidotes; in the fourth stage, there are the reasons for non-retrogression; in the fifth stage, it is explained from the aspect of eliminating the antidotes to be abandoned in meditation. What is the reason for explaining it here with post-meditation and meditative equipoise? When the Bodhisattva's path of meditation is shown to others, all types of meditation paths must be shown; when one meditates oneself, all types must be meditated, and all types are included in post-meditation and meditative equipoise. The Bodhisattva's path of meditation, post-meditation, must also be explained from the aspect of perfecting the accumulation of merit. Therefore, first is accumulating the accumulation of merit, in the middle is increasing the accumulation of merit, and finally is not exhausting the accumulation of merit, from these three aspects, the three of aspiration, dedication, and rejoicing are determined. The order is also explained in this way. Among them, the meditation path of aspiration is explained from the gate of the distinction of grounds; the meditation path of dedication is explained from the aspect of being with effort and without characteristics; the meditation path of rejoicing is explained from the gate of the two of skillful means and wisdom. The distinction of grounds of the meditation path of aspiration can be combined with the latter two; the being with effort and without characteristics of the meditation path of dedication can also be combined with the upper and lower two; the two of skillful means and wisdom of the meditation path of rejoicing can also be combined with the upper two. What is the distinction of grounds of the meditation path of aspiration, and how is it combined with the latter two? First, the object of aspiration is the Prajnaparamita, the wisdom of aspiration is the nine aspirations from the second to the tenth grounds, and the way is that these nine wisdoms aspire to the Prajnaparamita as the source of self-benefit perfection, called the nine self-benefit aspirations; aspiring to the Prajnaparamita as the source of two-benefit perfection, called the nine two-benefit aspirations; aspiring to the Prajnaparamita as the source of other-benefit perfection,

To establish faith as the source, and to establish nine kinds of altruistic faith, as it is said, "Faith in one's own benefit and." Therefore, it should be understood that each of these three sets of nine exists between the second and tenth bhumis. This is one of the two methods mentioned in the Great Commentary, and in the root text, due to the key point that each of the three is also said to have nine kinds, such as the smallest of the small, it seems that they are established between the second and tenth bhumis. For example, "The ninth bhumi is great," and the situation and manner are the same as in the case of "That is constant." In the Abhisamayalankara, it says, "For all aspects of faith, also from the smallest of the small, the metaphors become higher and higher. Following whatever is taught, one should understand the greatest of the great, etc., as the opposite of what is incompatible." This statement also shows this meaning. In the Abhisamayalankara, it says, "Faith in one's own benefit is that which actually accomplishes one's own benefit, and also acts with the intention to benefit others. The benefit of oneself and others is that which accomplishes the benefit of both. The benefit of others is that which becomes solely for the benefit of others, and there also one's own benefit is accomplished, and there it is not the prevention of one's own benefit." Thinking about the meaning of what was said, to establish self-benefit faith between the second and seventh bhumis, to establish the faith of the benefit of both in the eighth and ninth bhumis, and to establish other-benefit faith in the tenth bhumi, this is not consistent with the way of establishing each one divided into nine. And in the Abhisamayalankara itself, it says, "Here, faith in one's own benefit is to become intentional in doing the benefit of others, and in the second, the application has interruptions, and in the third, the application is without interruptions." This is also inconsistent, because below the seventh bhumi, one does not actually do the benefit of others, but it is uncertain to do it in the way of intending to do it, and for the eighth and ninth bhumis, the application to the benefit of others is not certain to have interruptions. Therefore, the meaning of that sutra also appears to be that for each of the post-attainment of the nine bhumis, there are also three kinds, and faith is established as three kinds, which is the meaning of the former. In order to generate the joy of the bodhisattva who cultivates such faith, the Tathagata proclaimed the nine kinds of self-benefit faith.
