To abide in the Buddha-ground, named Subhuti, this is the tenth ground of the great Bodhisattva. Thus it is said. Regarding this, there are three aspects: identifying the nine grounds to be transcended, examining the manner of transcending them, and the necessity of showing it from the perspective of the result. First, the ground of lineage refers to the four paths of joining where the lineage is determined to be temporarily in the Lesser Vehicle. The eighth ground refers to the realization of entering the stream. The three grounds of seeing, attenuation, and detachment from desire refer to the partial actualization of the first three fruitions. The ground of accomplished realization refers to the actualization of the Hearer Arhat. The Hearer ground refers to the differentiated actualization of the first three fruitions. The necessity of separately establishing these three as the Hearer ground is to establish the Hearer ground as the counterpart to the Solitary Realizer ground and the Bodhisattva ground, thereby establishing the nature of the three vehicles. As it is said in the "Two Manifestations": "The Hearer ground is intended to clearly establish the three vehicles." Its meaning is stated in the "Small Commentary on the Explanation": "Intended to establish the three natures." The necessity of establishing the nature of the three vehicles is to realize that on the tenth ground, the realizations, lineages, and qualities of the three vehicles all converge in enhancement. The Solitary Realizer ground refers to the actualization of acting like a rhinoceros horn or in assembly. The Bodhisattva ground refers to the nine grounds as previously described. Second, if the wisdom of the tenth ground should transcend the Bodhisattva ground, how can it transcend the inferior eight grounds? If the inferior eight grounds are not experienced beforehand, then transcending them is meaningless, and if they are experienced beforehand, then it would become the case that both of the two lower vehicles have been practiced. If asked: Answer, during the stage of the Bodhisattva's path of joining, by the power of constantly meditating on the realization lineage of the two lower vehicles, it is directly seen in the path of seeing, and thereafter, the realization lineage is no longer constantly meditated upon, therefore it is established as having transcended all the inferior eight grounds. As it is said in the "Two Manifestations": "The perfections of Hearers and Solitary Realizers are transcended by being seen by the Bodhisattva's wisdom and vision." Therefore, this is because it is primarily focused on others. Thus it should be understood.

It is accomplished. Furthermore, whatever wisdom and abandonment there is from the state of Stream-enterer to the state of Solitary Realizer, that is the patience of a Bodhisattva who has attained forbearance in the Dharma of non-arising. And what is that patience? It is the forbearance of the Dharma-knowledge of suffering. Because it is said so. In short, from the first ground onwards, when the abandonment and realization of Hearers and Solitary Realizers are complete, one has already transcended the eight inferior grounds, and subsequently transcended the nine grounds of Bodhisattvas. Therefore, transcending the eight inferior grounds means transcending through the view of knowledge, and transcending the nine grounds of Bodhisattvas means that when the later path arises, it transcends the former. Previously, such explanations were rare, so those who earnestly seek profound meaning should eliminate the stains of wrong views with the wisdom that examines the nature of reality, and then embrace it. Thirdly, if asked why the tenth ground is not shown from the perspective of purification, but from the perspective of the result, the great translator said that purification is for the purpose of making each preceding ground more distinguished than the previous one, and showing it from the perspective of the result is because it has been proven to be more superior than the previous ground. However, the scriptures say that purification is for the sake of attaining completeness, so it cannot be established that it is for the purpose of making the previous ground more distinguished. Even if it were established, it would only be the reason for not showing it from the perspective of purification, and the reason for showing it from the perspective of the result still needs to be sought, so the examination is not complete. The reasonable aspect is this: if these nine grounds were shown from the perspective of purification, some beginner Bodhisattvas might think that they cannot enter it, and thus become discouraged. Therefore, in order to arouse their interest, not only should the ultimate result be shown, but also the temporary tenth ground has such a result. It should be known that although the tenth ground has purification, it is also included in the purification of the ninth ground, and such cases also occur in the fifth chapter. Thirdly, the detailed explanation of the collection of antidotes is: "In the paths of seeing and meditation." Here, for the eight terms of what is to be abandoned, the teacher uses the same four terms that were previously taught in the stage of the path of joining, namely the conceptualizations to be abandoned by seeing and the conceptualizations to be abandoned by meditation.
