and showing it to others, fully maturing a hundred sentient beings through a hundred emanations, abiding for a hundred kalpas, entering the vision of wisdom in a hundred kalpas at the beginning and end, thoroughly distinguishing a hundred doors of Dharma, emanating a hundred bodies, and showing each body always accompanied by a hundred bodhisattva retinues, so it was said. The second ground has thousands of those qualities, the third has a hundred thousand, the fourth has a million, the fifth has ten million, the sixth has a hundred million, the seventh has a trillion hundred million, the eighth has the number of dust particles of ten million trillions of three thousand worlds, the ninth has the number of dust particles of ten million trillions of countless Buddha-fields, and the tenth has the number of dust particles of ten million trillions of inexpressible Buddha-fields, so it was said. The meaning of these is explained in the Madhyamakavatara, "At that time, this one sees a hundred Buddhas," etc., in nine verses. The twelfth is that after obtaining the wisdom of directly realizing selflessness, until one cannot consciously abide in the subtle errors of falling, that is the first ground, and the ability is the second ground. Then, until one cannot equally enter all worldly samadhis, and cannot retain all the meanings of what is heard, that is the second ground, and the ability is the third ground. Then, until one cannot repeatedly abide in the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, and craves samadhi and craves Dharma, and cannot abandon the mind more from craving for Dharma and abide in equanimity, that is the third ground, and the ability is the fourth ground. Then, until when meditating on the four truths, one tends to one side of samsara and nirvana, and cannot reverse the mind that tends to appearance, and thus cannot meditate on the aspects of enlightenment that are grasped by skillful means, that is the fourth ground, and the ability is the fifth ground. Then, until one is weary of samsara, and cannot abide in the signless, that is the fifth ground, and that ability is the sixth ground. Then, until one cannot abide in the signless in all situations.

The stage of being like that is the sixth bhumi, and when capable, it is the seventh bhumi. Then, until one cannot abide in the spontaneously accomplished, signless state, that stage is the seventh bhumi, and when capable, it is the eighth bhumi. Then, until one has not obtained the freedom to teach the Dharma with the four correct reasonings, that stage is the eighth bhumi, and when one has obtained freedom, it is the ninth bhumi. Then, until one has not obtained the complete Dharmakaya and cannot correctly realize it, that stage is the ninth bhumi, and when capable, it is the tenth bhumi. Then, even if one has obtained the freedom of the Nirmanakaya and so on, one cannot generate the wisdom that is without attachment and without obstruction to all knowable things, that stage is the tenth bhumi, and at the time of being capable, it is the Buddha bhumi, which is the meaning spoken in the quote from the Sandhinirmocana Sutra. In the Akṣayamati-nirdeśa Sutra, it says: In the first bhumi, in a dream, one sees the realms of the three thousand great thousand worlds filled with treasures as numerous as dust motes. In the second bhumi, one sees the three thousand worlds as flat as the palm of one's hand, well adorned with countless jewels. In the third bhumi, one sees oneself bravely wearing armor, subduing all external enemies. In the fourth bhumi, one sees various flowers manifestly scattered from the four wind mandalas in the four directions onto the great mandala that possesses all qualities. In the fifth bhumi, one sees a woman adorned with all ornaments wearing a garland of champaka flowers on her head. In the sixth bhumi, one sees a pond with four steps, spread with golden sand, without turbidity and clear, filled with water possessing eight qualities, adorned with utpala flowers, water lilies, and white lotuses, and one sees oneself enjoying and playing to one's heart's content in it. In the seventh bhumi, one sees the precipices of the hells of beings on both the left and right sides, and one sees oneself returning without being injured or damaged. In the eighth bhumi, one sees on both shoulders a lion, the king of beasts, with a mane, wearing a diadem, frightening all small predators and sitting there. In the ninth bhumi, one sees a Chakravartin king, surrounded by countless people, looking forward, with the top of his head adorned with various jewels.
