The antidotes for the grounds are the grounds themselves. Thus, it is taught that the ten non-afflictive obscurations are abandoned in sequence. In the Compendium, it is said that the ten obscurations of knowledge of the ten grounds are actually abandoned, and at the same time, the ten afflictive obscurations are also abandoned. Therefore, it is said that in the Buddha ground, the two obscurations are abandoned simultaneously. The uncommon system of this (referring to this treatise) and the Uttaratantra is that the uninterrupted path of the first ground abandons all the categories of what is to be abandoned of the lower vehicles, and the seeing-path abandonments of the Great Vehicle are abandoned simultaneously. The cultivation-path abandonments of the Great Vehicle are the cultivation-path abandonments of the obscuration of knowledge, so they are divided into nine aspects, such as the great of the great, and it is asserted that they are abandoned sequentially from the uninterrupted path of the second ground to the uninterrupted path of the tenth ground. For the nine grounds, it is: The great of, the great, etc., are stains, the antidote, the small of the small, etc., the path is pure. So it is said. That is, as the accumulation of antidotes to the cultivation-path abandonments, and as explained in the context of the peak practice of the cultivation path, the four conceptualizations of grasper and grasped, which are the cultivation-path abandonments, each of the nine grounds from the desire realm to the peak of existence encompasses nine aspects, making ninety-nine in total. From the nine great of the great being abandoned simultaneously by the uninterrupted path of the second ground, to the nine small of the small being abandoned simultaneously by the uninterrupted path of the tenth ground, it should be understood. The tenth is: the first ground has ten purifications, the second has eight, the third has five, the fourth has ten, the fifth has ten, the sixth has twelve, the seventh has twenty, the eighth has eight, and the ninth has twelve, totaling ninety-five. The tenth ground does not separately enumerate the purifications because it is shown from the perspective of the result in order to generate joy. It is not that there are none, for in the Manifestation of Reality it says: The collection of grounds is the ten grounds of bodhisattvas, each transforming into ten aspects by the distinction of purifying their own nature. Therefore, if one asks what the purifications of the tenth ground are, then the very purifications of the ninth ground, the practice done to perfect what is not yet perfected of the ninth ground, are the purifications of the ninth ground, and after being perfected, they transform into the subsequent attainment of the tenth ground, which are the purifications of the tenth ground. Furthermore, the first purification is the aspiration.

The perfection of the path is superior, so it is the same as the eighth ground. The second is the meaning of attaining accordance with individual correct knowledge, so the purification of the ninth ground is the main thing, and from the excellence of entering the womb downwards, it is the way of acting for the sake of others that is the same as the Buddha, so the purification of the tenth ground is the main thing. Are these purifications practiced by those who have not attained the ground, or by those who have already attained it? Some people think that they are practiced in order to make those who have not attained attain it, which is unreasonable. In the sutra, it says: "Subhuti, a great Bodhisattva who abides in the first ground should practice these ten purifications." And in the Sutra of the Ten Grounds, it says: "O sons of the Victorious Ones, a Bodhisattva who abides in the first ground should keep ten dharmas in mind." Therefore (it is known to be unreasonable). If you say, then "the ground is the first to be attained," is contradictory. That means to completely and fully attain the first ground. In the subsequent attainment of the first ground, practicing the ten, before the ten are fully attained, it is the first ground, and after it is fully attained, it is transferred to the second ground. In this way, in the Great Commentary, it says: "As long as the purification is not complete, it is that ground, and after the purification is complete, it is another ground," the meaning of which is also well explained. The eleventh is in the Sutra of the Ten Grounds: "O sons of the Victorious Ones, what are the fears of a Bodhisattva who has just attained the Joyful Ground of a Bodhisattva? Like this: there is no fear of not having a livelihood, no fear of not having sections, fear of death, fear of bad destinies, fear of being ashamed in the retinue, all of these are not there." Furthermore, the ten grounds sequentially complete the ten perfections. Also, the first ground has twelve hundred qualities. In the Sutra of the Ten Grounds, it says: "If one wants to initiate diligence, in this way one abandons family, wife, and all possessions and goes forth. After going forth, in an instant, a moment, a short time, one obtains and enters into a hundred samadhis. One sees a hundred Buddhas, and also truly knows their blessings. One can shake a hundred worlds, go to a hundred Buddha-fields, and fill a hundred worlds with light.
