Cutting off the continuum and all afflictions, completely purified without various forms of pride, obtaining wisdom in an instant and achieving equanimity, purifying Buddha-fields and maturing sentient beings, the learned one possesses great power and a complete body, and is certainly skilled in teaching, which is empowerment. Thus it is said. Fifth, the first ground is the basis of the three trainings, the second is the training in discipline, the third is the training in mind, the fourth is the wisdom gathered by practicing the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the fifth is the wisdom of realizing the suchness of the four noble truths, and the sixth is learning the wisdom of understanding dependent origination. The remaining four grounds are where the results of the three trainings are truly shown. As it says in the Ornament: Having well realized the nature of phenomena here, one subsequently trains in higher discipline, higher mind, and higher wisdom. The objects of wisdom are of two kinds: the suchness of phenomena and its nature, entering into not knowing, knowing, and so on. Since the object of wisdom is such, it dwells greatly on the two grounds. The fruits of all the trainings and meditations are of four kinds. Abiding with characteristics and conceptualization arising together, this is the first fruit. That nature is manifest, without conceptualization, and the fields are extremely pure, which is considered the second fruit. The accomplishment of maturing sentient beings, and samadhi and dharanis, are the accomplishment of the supreme fruit. These four kinds of fruits rely greatly on the four grounds. Thus it is said. Sixth, the first ground is the basis of the five uncontaminated aggregates, the second ground purifies the aggregate of discipline, the third ground purifies the aggregate of concentration, the fourth to sixth grounds purify the aggregate of wisdom, and the seventh ground and above purify the aggregate of liberation and the aggregate of the wisdom of seeing liberation. As it says in the Ornament: Having well realized the nature of phenomena here, the aggregate of discipline is purified. After that, concentration and the aggregate of wisdom are completely purified. From those others, from the four obscurations and the obscuration of obstructions, one is also liberated from those obscurations, and the wisdom of liberation is also purified. Thus it is said. Seventh, on the first ground, one particularly practices the perfection of generosity, and on the tenth ground, one particularly practices the perfection of wisdom. As it says in the Discrimination of the Middle and Extremes:

Generosity, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom as skillful means, aspiration, strength, and knowledge: these are the ten perfections. The differentiated and the undifferentiated should be understood in the ten grounds. Thus it is said. Eighth, in the Sutra of the Ten Grounds, one who abides in the first ground mostly becomes the ruler of Jambudvipa, free from the stain of miserliness, and becomes the master who eliminates the stain of miserliness of sentient beings. One who abides in the second ground becomes a universal monarch ruling over the four continents, mostly turning sentient beings away from immoral conduct and non-virtue, and leading them into virtue. One who abides in the third ground becomes Indra, skilled in turning sentient beings away from attachment to desire. One who abides in the fourth ground becomes the king of the gods of No-Conflict, extremely free from conflict, skilled in turning sentient beings away from the view of the aggregates of destruction. One who abides in the fifth ground becomes the king of the gods of Tushita, completely in Tushita, skilled in turning away all heretics. One who abides in the sixth ground becomes the king of the gods of Delight in Emanation, extremely skilled in emanation, skilled in turning sentient beings away from manifest pride. One who abides in the seventh ground becomes the master of Others' Emanations, the king of the gods, transformed into power, skilled in accomplishing the manifest realizations of hearers and solitary realizers. One who abides in the eighth ground becomes the great Brahma, the master of a thousand worlds, skilled in teaching the perfections of the three vehicles, and because he teaches the complete questioning of the distinct realms of the world, he is not robbed. One who abides in the ninth ground becomes the great Brahma, the master of three thousand worlds, skilled in teaching the perfections of the three vehicles, and because he teaches the complete questioning of the thoughts of bodhisattvas and sentient beings, he is not robbed. One who abides in the tenth ground becomes the great sovereign, the king of the gods of Akanishta, skilled in teaching the perfections of the three vehicles, and because he teaches the complete questioning of the distinct realms of the Dharma realm, he is not robbed. Thus it is said. The meaning of these, as well as the superior differences of the perfections, and the meanings of the individual words, all gathered together, in the Garland of Jewels, regarding their initial Joyful Ground, in order to delight the bodhisattvas, and so forth, twenty-three verses are spoken. Ninth is in the Madhyantavibhaga, ignorance in the realm of Dharma, the ten obscurations that are not afflictive, the opposing factors of the ten grounds.
