The ground of faith, the ground of Bodhisattvas, and the ground of Buddhas, these are the classifications of the three grounds. The Heart Sutra explains the classifications of the five paths. So, which Sutra should be explained? All the Prajñāpāramitā Sutras mainly teach the wisdom of realizing selflessness, which is the mother of the four noble ones, so it is appropriate to call it "mother," so this Sutra is the classic to be explained here. Secondly, some ancient scholars believe that the founders of the chariot of commentaries on the Prajñāpāramitā Sutra are Maitreya's Abhisamayalankara, Nagarjuna's Madhyamaka-śāstra, the hero's commentary on the Hundred Thousand Verses, and Dignāga's summary of the Eight Thousand Verses, these four treatises are definite in number. So, how did they create the tradition? The first treatise clearly explains the order of hidden meaning and realization. The second treatise clearly explains the view of emptiness directly shown. The third treatise explains the meaning of the mother through three doors and eleven categories. The three doors are, first of all, in the opening chapter, the basis is distinguished, and for sentient beings with sharp faculties, such as Shariputra Bodhisattva Mahasattva, who want to attain all dharmas in all ways, they should study the Prajñāpāramitā. Through the four ways of "for what reason, why, where to study," all meanings are summarized and explained, this is the door of summarized explanation. Then, up to the first chapter, it is the door of medium explanation. After that, the complete explanation to the end is the door of extensive explanation, these are the three doors. The eleven categories are, first, the teaching to Shariputra, then the teaching by Subhuti is one, then the teaching to Indra is two, the teaching to Subhuti is four, the teaching to Maitreya is two, and the complete entrustment after teaching to Ananda, a total of eleven. The fourth treatise summarizes the main meaning of the Mother Sutra into thirty-two categories to explain, that is, the Summary of the Eight Thousand Verses says: "The basis and the purpose, the activity and the practice, the difference, the sign and the fall, the benefits should all be said." Among them, the basis refers to the teacher Buddha, the purpose refers to the retinue, the activity refers to how to practice the Mother Sutra with the ten dharmic practices, the practice refers to the ten practices as antidotes to the ten kinds of distracted thoughts, and the difference refers to the ten kinds of emptiness.

Sixth, regarding the signs, there are two types: the signs of demonic activity and the signs of irreversibility. Regarding downfall, abandoning the Prajñāpāramitā leads to falling into the lower realms. Regarding benefits, some believe that offering charity by filling three thousand worlds with jewels is less meritorious than practicing the Mother Prajñāpāramitā. The Omniscient One said that the latter two are not different originators from the former two, so the originators must be the former two. This is also logically sound. Generally, merely explaining the intent of the Mother does not make one an originator of a vehicle. Rather, it is by relying on the oral instructions of others, not by explaining the meaning in a general way, but by directly seeing the truth of the ultimate reality of Dharma-nature, and thus freely explaining the intent of the Buddha, that one is considered an originator of a vehicle. Therefore, it must be the former two cases. The latter two are merely explaining the meaning in a general way by relying on the oral instructions of others. If merely because the methods of explanation are different, they are considered different originators, then the *Fundamental Wisdom* and the *Entrance [to the Middle Way]* would also become different originators. Because the former explains from the perspective of dependent arising free from the eight extremes of conceptual elaboration, while the latter explains by combining the teachings from the *Ten Bhūmi Sūtra*. So, on whose oral instructions do the latter two rely? The teacher Dignāga (ཕྱོགས་གླང་།, ca. 5th-6th century CE) received the oral instructions of Maitreya through Asaṅga (ཐོགས་མེད།, ca. 4th century CE), and heard them from Vasubandhu (དབྱིག་གཉེན།, ca. 4th century CE). The teacher Āryadeva (དཔའ་བོ།, ca. 3rd century CE) heard the oral instructions of Nāgārjuna from Āryadeva (འཕགས་པ་ལྷ།, 3rd century CE), so they followed them. Third, if it is determined that there are two originators, then how did they originate? Generally, the *Prajñā Sūtra* has already shown the paths of the three vehicles. The sūtra extensively states that those who wish to study the Śrāvakabhūmi should also study the Prajñāpāramitā. Finally, it says, why is that? Because this Prajñāpāramitā extensively shows the three vehicles. Therefore, in the context of the homage in the *Ornament of Clear Realization*, it is considered consistent with the topic, showing the paths of all three vehicles, and thus praising the qualities of the three knowledges. But in the main text, it only shows the stages of the Mahāyāna path, because the sūtra says, "not experienced by others."
