reason. If we regard the treatises that explain other differences as extensive explanations, it contradicts the combination of the "Bodhi Briefly Indicated Sutra" and the explanation of mind generation like the earth. If you ask whether the treatises that explain characteristics do not combine with sutras, then all the sutras regarding the twenty-two mind generations are combinations of the treatises that explain characteristics and sutras. For example, although there is no separate sutra combination of definitive division and conformity to the briefly indicated sutra from the sutra starting with "the object is impermanent," just as a brief indication does not need to be without a sutra. The word of adornment that summarizes and shows the benefit of others is also the word of adornment "earth" itself. Because the three metaphors such as gold explain the vastness of bodhi, and from treasure onwards explain the vastness of benefiting others, there is no other language that summarizes the benefit of others. Therefore, it must be considered that the mind generation spoken of in the context of "mind generation is for the benefit of others" and the mind generation spoken of from the context of "earth" are coextensive. Because the former treatise shows that mind generation takes benefiting others and bodhi as its objects, the word "earth" briefly indicates these two objects, while gold and so on extensively explain these two objects. If you ask whether this contradicts saying that it is included by the small accumulation path, there is no fault because it is a confirmation of the minimum limit. Otherwise, it would follow that from the second ground onwards, there would be no mind generation with the perfection of generosity. In the root of the treatise, combining mind generation with sutras means that everything from instructions to activities should also be combined with sutras. This is for the sake of knowing, and the reason for not actually combining is because of the fear of many words. The necessity of combining with sutras is to prevent later trainees from relying on the words of the Buddha and composing treatises independently under the influence of biased views. This has been said before, and it also appears in the "Ratnagotravibhāga." Second, examining the difficult points, divided into: examining whether the basis is mind or mental factor; examining whether the aspiration and engagement are contradictory; and examining whether it has a common basis with the ultimate mind generation. First, the two noble lions consider it mainly as mind, in the "Abhisamayalankara" it says: Mind generation means mind.

The ground is consciousness, it is consciousness. What is consciousness? It is the consciousness of mind, because it focuses on all white dharmas, therefore it exists there. Like this, the teacher raised the question, "Because desire is a mental factor, it contradicts being bodhicitta," and answered, "Indeed it is so." Also, because the desire to "want complete enlightenment" is a nominal designation of bodhicitta, and does not show mental factor bodhicitta. Maitreya, the protector, explained it as a mental factor, here also saying "wanting complete enlightenment," and in the Ornament of the Sutras it says, "The mental factor possessing two meanings." Therefore, the brothers Asanga also agreed with this view, saying in the Bodhisattva Grounds, "The supreme aspiration of bodhisattvas is bodhicitta," and in the commentary on "the mental factor possessing two meanings," Vasubandhu said, "The mind that focuses on two or three qualities is bodhicitta." The key point is that it should mainly be established on the mental factor desire and mind, because the desire to "want complete enlightenment" is desire, and the mental factor of "the mental factor possessing two meanings," Vasubandhu explained as mind, and Asanga explained as both. How is it explained? The supreme aspiration is explained as bodhicitta, and that aspiration is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "The aspiration of the steadfast is, possessing mind and desire." Therefore, it is explained as both mind and desire. So, is bodhicitta necessarily these two mental factors? When these two mental factors become bodhicitta, the other minds and mental factors that are associated with it also become bodhicitta due to the power of others. Like the eight aggregates of consciousness and the fifty-one mental factors, etc., refuge, bodhicitta, application, and practice, etc., which are not mentioned from the difference between mind and mental factors, are mainly established from the perspective of mental factors, but due to the power of others, both mind and mental factors exist, this is the intention of the sutras and treatises such as the upper and lower Abhidharma.
