Through examples, the common ground is implied. Third, regarding the two lines of verse about "arguments such as no action." According to appearances, the answers to arguments based on the reason of "no action," etc., are summarized by the word "etc.," and there are four types of argumentative answers: contradictory in ultimate truth, uncertain in conventional truth, contradictory to scripture, and contradictory in sequence. The first argument is: Since it is said that all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are like dreams, then if they are like dreams, daytime actions will also become without actions, etc. For example, Shariputra said: Subhuti, what action does a great Bodhisattva do in a dream, and will that action increase or decrease? Its meaning is that, in appearance, the argument that there is no action is like this: If it is a phenomenon like a dream, then just like a dream, the action encompassed by preparation, main practice, and conclusion, whether it increases or decreases, is unreasonable. Second, the answer is that the answer acknowledged in ultimate truth is: The sutra says that the Blessed One said that all phenomena are like dreams, so actions will not increase or decrease. Why? Because in the phenomena of dreams, nothing is perceived to increase or decrease. In conventional truth, the answer of uncertain pervasion is: The sutra says, however, if one discerns after waking up, then actions will increase or decrease. In appearance, it says: However, even when awake, one fully knows and then discerns later, and it is not that one does not discern. Thus, the connection between action and result is closely established as arising from convention. The meaning is that even if it is like a dream, there is no need to say there is no action, because in a dream one dreams that action has increased, and if one nourishes it with later discernment, the action will increase. The second argument is that if one nourishes it with later discernment, action will increase, then even though the action in the dream is not real, if one nourishes it with later discernment, action will increase, then later discernment is ultimately real. If it is nourished, the action will also become ultimately real, is that so? The sutra says: Subhuti said: Shariputra, if one kills during the day,

In a dream, one kills a being and thinks: "That was killed by me. It is good that I killed it." When such discriminating thoughts arise, the venerable Shariputra asks him: "What are you saying?" Its meaning is explained in the Abhisamayalankara: "Killing during the day and killing in a dream refer to the well-known night and day themselves." The word "in" indicates that it is distinguished from the dream of samsara. The venerable Shariputra asks him: "What are you saying?" This is a complete inquiry with the nature of right and wrong, although it contradicts the antidote, but because discriminating thoughts follow, it is thus determined for the purpose of truly showing that it is the ultimate truth. Thus it is said. The second is the answer, the sutra says: Subhuti said to Shariputra, without an object, karma is not produced, without an object, mind is not produced. From having an object, karma and mind arise, not without an object. From here to completely holding purity. And the Abhisamayalankara says: The answer here is because it is admitted that karma arises from having an object, and it is prohibited that karma arises without an object, so it is said again that it arises from that indication. It is said that the meaning of those is that later discriminating thoughts nourish karma, if later discriminating thoughts nourish karma as the reality of ultimate truth, then karma must become the reality of ultimate truth, that is not the case. In conventional terms, contaminated karma and mind arise from their own cause, discriminating thoughts, and without it, they do not arise, that is the meaning. The third is the argument, close to admitting that mind arises from its own cause, discriminating thoughts, therefore mind does not arise from its own cause, discriminating thoughts, because the Bhagavan said that all karma and mind are solitary. Thus it is said. In the sutra: Venerable Subhuti, all karma and mind are solitary. If the Bhagavan said this, then how can karma and mind arise from having an object, not without an object? And in the Abhisamayalankara: Because all minds are solitary, therefore the reality of its object is non-existent. This is the argument. Thus it is said.
