Because of observing without seeing, one observes that body and mind arise suddenly; relying on discrimination, one says that there is no cause, just as rain and wind arise suddenly; and seeing that trees sometimes suddenly blossom and bear fruit, and sometimes do not, one says that self and world are without cause. The four cases of those who say that there is a boundary and no boundary are: some non-Buddhist sages with supernormal powers want to truly seek whether the world has a boundary or not. When they remember the eon of destruction, they have the idea of having a boundary; when they remember the eon of formation, they have the idea of being without a boundary. Also, when they want to truly seek the boundary of a vast area, when they do not see below beyond the Avīci Hell and do not see above beyond the Fourth Dhyana, and do not see the other shore of everything horizontally, then they have the idea of having a boundary below and above, and horizontally they have the idea of being without a boundary. Among them, the former relies on the supernormal power of remembering previous lives to discriminate the boundary of time; the latter relies on the supernormal power of the divine eye to discriminate the boundary of place. The aspect that is inconsistent with the latter is only clinging to the difference of words, not the difference of meaning, so the idea of neither having a boundary nor being without a boundary will not arise. The four cases of those who say that they do not abandon gods and humans are: immature intellect, arrogance with the appearance of having realization, mature but uncertain intellect, and knowledge that is stubborn and completely ignorant. When asked starting from the path of manifest highness—good and non-good, and the path that is determined to be excellent—the Four Noble Truths, they vow, "I am not one who abandons gods and humans," and then starting from the cause of obtaining the state of the immortal, pure gods, they evade the questions that should not be abandoned with other words, or avoid them with the attitude of non-Buddhists and arrogance. These are all called discriminating the past limit because of discriminating the objects of the past and present, that is, the things of the past and present have already happened.

Because it is the extreme of the past. Secondly, the summary is: sixteen kinds of those who speak of having perception, eight kinds of non-perception and non-duality, seven kinds of those who speak of annihilation, and five kinds of those who are certain to be liberated in this life. Thus, the first sixteen are: I have form and perception, I do not have perception, both are perception, neither are perception, these are four kinds; I have boundaries, I do not have boundaries, both are, neither are perception, these are four kinds; I am happy, I am suffering, both are, neither are perception, these are four kinds; I am the only one, I am different, I am small, I am immeasurable perception, such are the contemplations. The eight kinds of those who speak of non-perception are: I am with form, without perception, up to I have boundaries, I do not have boundaries, neither are, without perception, these eight in between. The eight kinds of those who speak of neither are: the previous eight, which are neither with perception, nor without perception, these eight combined. The seven kinds of those who speak of annihilation are: humans of the desire realm, gods, those of the form realm, and the four formless abodes, these seven are accompanied by disease, tumors, and pain until they die, and after death they claim complete annihilation. The five kinds of those who claim liberation in this life are: liberation through unrestrained enjoyment of the qualities of desire, and those who claim liberation through attaining the four dhyanas. These mostly contemplate the future, therefore they are views that contemplate the extreme of the future. So, which of the five views do these include? If we consider their own nature, we can distinguish the views arising from the view of clinging to extremes and wrong views. The eight kinds of eternalists, those who do not have boundaries, and the seven kinds of annihilationists are the first. The two who claim no cause and no agent are the second. Karma, and the remaining forty-two are of the nature of both, because they are views of accretion and clinging to extremes. If we consider the entire nature of cause and effect, we can completely distinguish them from the five views. The view of the aggregates is the cause of all of them, and the views of holding to the supreme are the result.
