Now, if that is obtained, then it is too extensive that it is impossible to generate the thought of focusing on one's own benefit. Fifth fallacy: If one is a Mahayana preparatory path practitioner, then it is too extensive that one obtains the peak practice that increases merit. If that is the case, then it is too extensive that one's own continuum peak practice increases merit, because of that. Also, some people, if they acknowledge that one is a Mahayana preparatory path practitioner, then it is too extensive that one obtains the distinction of non-retrogression, others state the fault in this way: 'Forms, etc., have signs of regression, etc.' This treatise has shown that all three, sharp, medium, and dull faculties, of the Mahayana preparatory path practitioner have obtained the sign of non-retrogression, which is too extensive. The sign is acknowledged. If you accept, then it is too extensive that there is no need to separately show that the Mahayana path of seeing and the path of meditation have obtained the sign of non-retrogression, because of that acceptance. It is pervasive, if all the former are definitely non-retrogressive, then the latter two must also be definitely so. Having blocked in this way, in one's own system, the lowest limit of the sign of non-retrogression is placed on the three paths in accordance with the order of faculties, it is said. Then, 'Forms, etc., have signs of regression, etc.' That treatise, etc., has shown that all sharp-witted Bodhisattvas on the preparatory path have obtained the sign of non-retrogression, which is too extensive. If one is a sharp-witted Bodhisattva on the preparatory path, then it is too extensive that one obtains the sign of non-retrogression, because of that. The sign and pervasion are acknowledged. If you accept, wait a moment. That treatise has shown that all sharp-witted Bodhisattvas abiding in heat have obtained the sign of non-retrogression, which is too extensive. Because of that acceptance. If you accept, then it is acknowledged, it is too extensive that there is no need to separately show that all sharp-witted Bodhisattvas abiding in the peak practice of the preparatory path, and in forbearance, and in supreme dharma have obtained the sign of non-retrogression, because of that acceptance. The pervasion is acknowledged, if all sharp-witted Bodhisattvas abiding in heat are definitely non-retrogressive, then the sharp-witted individuals abiding in the latter three preparatory paths must also be definitely so, because of that. Some people, the sharp-witted Bodhisattva on the preparatory path, is the medium-witted on the path of seeing. That is the dull-witted on the path of meditation, the three have two, obtaining the sign of non-retrogression and not obtaining, those who have obtained are established here as the Sangha represented by the sign of non-retrogression.

It is said to be "is." Then, for a sharp-witted Bodhisattva on the Path of Accumulation whose lineage is uncertain, the sign of non-retrogression has not been obtained, because there are sharp-witted Bodhisattvas on the Path of Accumulation who have not obtained the sign of non-retrogression. This cannot be accepted, because the Great Commentary says, "Although some lineages are uncertain, in situations that are in accordance with certainty, they possess inconceivable differences in methods, so they must be determined as non-retrogressive." This contradicts the above statement. Furthermore, there should be Bodhisattvas who cannot possibly obtain the sign of non-retrogression, because if they are Bodhisattvas on the Path of Cultivation, it is not universally true that they obtain the sign of non-retrogression. If this is admitted, then there would be Buddhas, the Noble Ones, who have never obtained the sign of non-retrogression. Some also say that the main subject to be taught here is the Sangha of the Path of Accumulation who are non-retrogressive, the Sangha of the Path of Seeing who are non-retrogressive, and the Sangha of the Path of Cultivation who are non-retrogressive. The definitions of these three are, respectively: a Bodhisattva who has obtained any one of the three signs divided into four categories in their own mind-stream, and who believes as if they have obtained it, abiding in the Part of Determination; a Bodhisattva who has obtained any one of the sixteen reasons such as the reversal of perception of form, etc., in their own mind-stream, and who believes as if they have obtained it, abiding in the direct realization of truth; a Bodhisattva who is led by the eight profound Samadhis, possessing special bodily and verbal conduct in the subsequent attainment, abiding in the subsequent realization. Then, a dull-witted Bodhisattva abiding in the Heat stage should be the former definition, because it is the object to be explained, because it is a Bodhisattva on the Path of Accumulation. A sharp-witted mind abiding in the Endurance of Suffering Dharma should be the second definition, because it is the object to be explained. If this is admitted, then it should not be a person abiding in the first moment of the Path of Seeing, because it is what is admitted. A Bodhisattva abiding in the Peak stage should be the latter definition, because it is the object to be explained. The subject and the example have been established. Secondly, in general, non-retrogression from unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, merely non-retrogression, exists from the Path of Accumulation onwards. Therefore, it does not belong to the Sangha of non-retrogression, because the minimum limit for becoming non-retrogressive is said to be from the Path of Application, because after obtaining the Path of Application of the Great Vehicle, it is the stage of unsurpassed (enlightenment).
