The elaboration of characteristics that become the object of mental grasping is called the self of phenomena; the absence of that is called the absence of self of phenomena. The mind that conceptually thinks in the three spheres is the mind that grasps the self of phenomena; the mind that does not conceptually think in the three spheres is the mind that realizes the absence of self of phenomena, which is the view of Lord Maitreya. In the Uttaratantra, it says, "Whatever conceptually thinks in the three spheres is considered an obscuration of knowledge." Also, in the first and fifth chapters, it is said that the mind that manifestly clings to objects as merely imputed is the obscuration of knowledge, which is the main thing to be abandoned on the Bodhisattva path. Furthermore, in the third chapter, it is said that the mind that clings to emptiness of aggregates such as form, the mind that clings to the three times, the mind that clings to generosity as generosity, the mind that clings to the aspects of enlightenment as practice, and the mind that clings to the Tathagata as a refuge, are all considered as grasping the self of phenomena and are taught as the uncommon things to be abandoned on the Bodhisattva path. Such an absence of self of phenomena is not realized even slightly by Hearers and Solitary Realizers. The three paths of accumulation, seeing, and meditation of Bodhisattvas are far superior to all three paths of Hearers and Solitary Realizers through the realization of such an absence of self of phenomena, as is very clearly stated in the Ornament for Clear Realization. Moreover, the difference between the basis of knowledge of the opposing side and the basis of knowledge of the antidote is also distinguished through this. Furthermore, it seems that the texts such as "That is from the object of characteristics" and "Ephemeral and diverse" all point to this alone. Such an absence of self of phenomena is not realized by Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and the noble Nagarjuna and his spiritual sons also hold this view. In the Precious Garland, it says, "The twisting of the profound frightens some who strive for enlightenment." And, "Deeds of sin and merit are past, possessing the meaning of employing the profound, not experienced by fear of non-abode by other heretics and oneself." Furthermore, in the Entrance to the Middle Way, it says, "Giving, the giver, the recipient, are empty of giving." In its commentary, it says, "That is not knowable by those who have not attained the Bodhisattva stage." Therefore, Nagarjuna considers the realization of the selflessness of aggregates as the phenomena of

The former says that they have realized the selflessness of persons, but says that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers have it (the selflessness of persons). Maitreya thinks that realizing the signless is realizing the selflessness of phenomena, but says that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers do not have it (the selflessness of phenomena). What is the reason? The former is based on the Prajnaparamita Sutra, which says, "Those who want to study in the Hearer's ground should also study the Prajnaparamita," etc., and the wisdom of realizing emptiness, which becomes the cause of enlightenment for all three vehicles, is determined by the collections of reasoning, etc. At that time, in order to make his own treatises cover all three types of people, he did not clearly explain the differences in realization. The latter summarizes the subject matter of the Prajnaparamita Sutra into eight realizations and explains the aspects of the Mahayana uncommon path. At that time, in order to make the beings tamed by his own treatises enter only the Mahayana path, he explained each realization that is superior to the Hinayana in each path. In short, both Maitreya and Nagarjuna believe that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers realize the selflessness of the aggregates. They also both believe that they have not realized the signless, the objectless, and the non-proliferation. Merely because the terms are different does not lead to different views, because the terms are set according to needs, and the needs have already been explained. Some of the accusations against others are based on commentaries, so do not think that this contradicts this, because this is only what I can understand in this world. In the section "From the perspective of clinging to signs," some people think that the Hearer's path of seeing, the uninterrupted path, is the basis consciousness that is far from the fruit mother, because it is the basis consciousness that is not good at practicing the fruit mother, because it is the basis consciousness that clings to the base, path, and fruit as signs. If so, then it cannot directly abandon the seeds of the self-grasping of sentient beings in its own share, because it is the wisdom that clings to the base, path, and fruit as signs. If you admit it, then it cannot lead the person with self-continuity to the two nirvanas by directly abandoning it, because you admit it. Furthermore, it should become the conceptual thought of confusing sound and meaning, and the aspect of the proof.
