Chapter Three: An Explanation of the Difficult Points of the Basis of Knowledge Chapter Three: An Explanation of the Difficult Points of the Basis of Knowledge Unconditional compassion does not abandon samsara. The stains of clinging to characteristics in the ground, path, and fruition are removed, accomplishing the mother of fruition. I prostrate to the victorious mother who knows all grounds. Without knowing all grounds, one cannot perfectly know the path. In this context, some say that there is a reason for explaining the basis of knowledge after the knowledge of the path. This is because the basis of knowledge taught in the third chapter must necessarily precede the arising of the knowledge of the path. If it is the knowledge of the path of the Hearers, it must be grasped by the Mahayana mind of enlightenment. For that, great compassion focused on sentient beings must precede it. And for that, the path of the middling person who sees the faults of samsara must precede it. If they say this, then the root reason is not valid. The antidote, the basis of knowledge, does not necessarily have to precede the arising of the knowledge of the path. The basis of knowledge of the opposing side also does not necessarily have to precede it. If the first is not established, then it follows that there is an antidote basis of knowledge in the stage of the Mahayana path of joining, because that is not established. Furthermore, it follows that the knowledge of the path must necessarily precede the arising of the knowledge of the path. What is not established? Because if it is an antidote basis of knowledge, it must be the knowledge of the path. If the second is not established, it follows that if it is the knowledge of the path, it must be a preliminary of the inferior path. Furthermore, if the path of the middling person who sees the faults of samsara is that, then it must be the path of the Lesser Vehicle, because there is pervasion in the case of establishing the root sign. If you accept, then it follows that if it is a noble being, it must be a preliminary of the inferior path, whatever is accepted, because the path of the middling person who sees the faults of samsara must necessarily precede the arising of the knowledge of the path. According to our own system, knowing all the bases is knowing the difference between whether clinging to characteristics is an opposing factor and whether the wisdom that realizes freedom from elaboration is an antidote. Without that, perfectly knowing the path is not just knowing the three paths as unborn, but knowing them in a way that is free from the stains of clinging to the characteristics of the three paths. Therefore, the meaning of "without that" is the meaning of "perfectly knowing the path."

The power of also appears. If you know this key point, you will understand the difference between whether the Hearers and Solitary Realizers have realized the selflessness of phenomena, and the meanings of the treatises in the third chapter will be understood spontaneously. I have these. In the context of "neither this shore nor the other shore, without limit," in the first aspect of affirmation and negation, some say: The path of seeing of the Great Vehicle is the fundamental wisdom that does not abide in existence or quiescence, because it is the knowledge of the noble Bodhisattvas who directly realize the equality of the three times. Others say: That dharma, the proposition is not established, because it is the fundamental wisdom that abides in quiescence, because it is the fundamental wisdom that abides in Nirvana, because it is the fundamental wisdom that abides in Nirvana, having abandoned the afflictive obscurations. If it is not established, then, because the Bodhisattva on the path of seeing is a person who has completely abandoned the afflictive obscurations. Moreover, the fundamental reason is also unreasonable, because it is impossible for the three times to be equal, because these three times occur sequentially. In the first aspect, the Great Vehicle path of seeing is a person who abides on the edge of Nirvana, having abandoned the afflictive obscurations, because he is a person who has completely abandoned the afflictive obscurations. If you accept, then, this dharma, is a person who abides on the edge of quiescence. Because of this acceptance. If you accept, then, it is not a person who prevents the edge of quiescence with compassion. Because of this acceptance. Furthermore, the basis of non-abiding Nirvana is not established, because the wisdom of the Buddha abides in either existence or quiescence. The sign is accepted, because it abides in quiescence. In the latter aspect, the wisdom of the eighth ground is not a union of equality of existence and quiescence, because it is impossible for existence and quiescence to be equal, because existence is the nature of faults, and quiescence is the nature of qualities. They are accepted sequentially. Dar Tika Pa says: Here, the term path of knowledge that does not abide in existence and quiescence is reasonable, but the term fundamental knowledge that does not abide in existence and quiescence is unreasonable, because this treatise explains that both the path of seeing and the path of meditation of the Great Vehicle are shown as preventing existence and quiescence in the second chapter. Then, the statement that the fundamental wisdom of the Lesser Vehicle is the opposite of the occasion of omniscience is unreasonable.
