Because it is so. Omniscient. It is said in the Sutra Collection: Like a poison possessed by mantras and medicine, it cannot lead to inverted death. Similarly, the afflictions possessed by the wisdom of a Bodhisattva cannot lead to inverted downfall. Also, it is because the Path Wisdom is shown to be contaminated when explaining the nature of affliction, in the way of deliberately pursuing and not abandoning it. There are three situations above. The first situation: The birth taken by the Bodhisattva Arya in samsara should be the nature of samsaric birth. Because it is the birth that the Hearer deliberately seeks and abandons. The reason is accepted, because the Bodhisattva Arya is different from the Hearer by taking birth in samsara. The second situation: The poison possessed by mantras and medicine should not be the nature of poison. Because you cannot perform the function of poison, because you do not do the action of poison. If this is not established, then the afflictions possessed by the wisdom of the Bodhisattva Arya should perform the action of affliction. Because that is not established. Omniscience is accepted. If admitted, then it contradicts the previous quote from the Sutra Collection. The third situation: The Path Wisdom should be the contaminated nature of affliction. Because it is shown to be contaminated when explaining the nature of affliction, in the way of deliberately pursuing and not abandoning it. The reason and omniscience are accepted. The second view is that A and Buna said: Compassion, aspiration, bodhicitta, etc. in the continuum of the Bodhisattva Arya are here given the name of affliction. Some people think that the afflictions mentioned here refer to the eight afflictions that are in accordance with the roots of virtue mentioned in the Ocean of Wisdom Sutra. What are these eight afflictions? It is said in that sutra: What are the afflictions that are in accordance with the roots of virtue that become the cause of samsara? For example, not being satisfied with fully accumulating merit, consciously grasping existence, seeking to meet the Buddha, not being tired of maturing sentient beings, diligently upholding the Dharma, striving for all the activities of sentient beings, and having a thought of attachment to the Dharma.

Because it is said, "Not abandoning, not forsaking all the practices of the pāramitās." This is unreasonable, because for those who possess realization, such doubts do not arise: whether the compassion and aspirations, etc., in the continuum of a bodhisattva are cultivated for the sake of the wisdom of the path, whether they are abandoned or not abandoned? And, if it is said that the wisdom of the path is cultivated for the sake of the wisdom of the path and not abandoned, that it is the nature of the wisdom of the path, that would be too far-reaching. Third, the Khenchenpa of the Golden Rosary said: Some say that cultivating to abandon the predispositions of ignorance and views, and cultivating to not abandon the predispositions of desire and existence, is the meaning of cultivating to not abandon afflictions as taught here. This is unreasonable, because what difference is there, since the former two are the cause of the latter two? Cultivating the cause is for abandoning, and cultivating the result is for not abandoning. After thus refuting, his own school asserts that existence is labeled as affliction, saying that it is cultivated for not abandoning. To this, refuting other schools is unreasonable, because the *Sunlight Sutra* says, "Completely eliminating all predispositions is the predisposition included in ignorance and views, but bodhisattvas intentionally take birth in existence, so it is not included in the outflows of desire and existence." This contradicts that. Furthermore, the distinction of establishing the truth of the origin as what is to be abandoned and the truth of suffering as what is to be known is unreasonable, because the reason for refuting other schools is like that. One's own school is also unreasonable, because the basis consciousness of a śrāvaka arhat possesses the characteristic of not abandoning afflictions as taught here, because it is cultivated for the sake of existence and not abandoned. The pervasion is accepted. Someone says: There is no fault, because he has already cultivated to abandon that. If so, then the realization of a śrāvaka arhat precedes the path of seeing of the Mahayana, so the latter does not possess that characteristic, because he has already cultivated to abandon that. Second, the afflictions taught here are predispositions, and these are cultivated by noble bodhisattvas for not abandoning, because they are necessary as the cause for noble bodhisattvas to take birth. Just as manifest afflictions cause lesser vehicle noble ones and ordinary beings to take birth.
