Definition of the Path of Meditation: The direct realization that occurs after the completion of the Mahāyāna Path of Seeing and before the arising of the Mahāyāna Path of No More Learning is the definition of the Mahāyāna Path of Meditation. Second, regarding the three aspects of refutation, establishment, and abandonment. First: Some say that all post-meditation attainments of the Mahāyāna Path of Meditation are with deluded appearances, so they are contaminated; all meditative stabilizations are without deluded appearances, so they are uncontaminated. If so, then the dedication of the second ground, which is the Path of Meditation, should be a consciousness with deluded appearances, because it is a post-meditation attainment of the Mahāyāna Path of Meditation. If you accept this, then it should be a non-conceptual mistaken consciousness, because the non-conceptual consciousness and the one with deluded appearances have the same basis. Furthermore, the delusion in the post-meditation attainments of the ten grounds should become greater and greater, because all the post-meditation attainments of the ten grounds are with deluded appearances, and the appearances of the post-meditation attainments of the ten grounds become greater and greater. Because in the stage of the post-meditation attainment of the first ground, one sees a hundred Buddhas, and in the stage of the post-meditation attainment of the second ground, one sees a thousand Buddhas, and so on, there are such differences. Also, some say that the difference between contaminated and uncontaminated in this context is whether or not there are contaminations of afflictions. If so, then has the noble Bodhisattva abandoned the obscurations of afflictions or not? If the former, then the aspiration of the second ground, which is the Path of Meditation, should not be contaminated by afflictions, because it is the consciousness in the continuum of a person who has abandoned afflictions. If the latter, then the wisdom of meditative stabilization of the second ground should not be uncontaminated by afflictions, because it is the consciousness of one who has not abandoned afflictions. Both the former and latter accept the stated reason. Dartika says: The meaning of "contaminated" here is that it is established as contaminated because it has conceptual thoughts that mix sound and meaning, but it is not the contaminated that is included in what is to be abandoned. Because the three, aspiration, dedication, and rejoicing, are to be diligently generated by the Bodhisattva in the post-meditation as a part of perfecting the accumulation of merit, how could there be a scholar who needs to diligently generate what is to be abandoned by meditation? If it is to be abandoned, then who will do the abandoning of meditation? And no one can do the basis of what is to be abandoned by meditation and the Path of Meditation in the continuum of a Mahāyāna noble being.

Therefore, if there is no realization of mixed apprehension of sound and meaning beyond the eighth ground, then even a little of the hidden object of measurement will not be taken as an object, so it is said. So, what is the meaning of "not the contaminated that is included by abandonment"? Does it mean that the contaminated that is to be abandoned on the path of cultivation of the contaminated is not the contaminated that is included by abandonment? Or does it mean that the very nature of the path of cultivation of the contaminated is not included by abandonment? According to the former, the realization to be possessed on the path of joining of the Great Vehicle should not be included by abandonment, because the path of joining of the Great Vehicle is to be generated by the effort of the Bodhisattva to attain omniscience, but there is no wise person who is generated by the effort of cultivation and abandonment. According to the latter, it is highly desirable, because it is admitted that the path of cultivation of the contaminated possesses the contaminated that is included by abandonment, but it is not admitted to be included by abandonment. Similarly, if it is to be abandoned, then it must be abandoned by cultivation, etc., which is just saying irrelevant things, because although it is admitted that the contaminated to be abandoned is abandoned by cultivation, it is not admitted to be the path of cultivation; although it is admitted that the path of cultivation of the contaminated is the path of cultivation, it is not admitted to be abandoned by cultivation. The intention of the second ground, the Dharma of the path of cultivation, should be a mind with manifest attachment, because it is a mind with the realization of mixed apprehension of sound and meaning. If you admit it, then it should not be, because it is the subsequent pure worldly wisdom of the Great Vehicle's noble lineage. Because, the pure worldly is said to be included by the subsequent mind with the aspect of not being manifestly attached to the apprehended and the apprehender. Furthermore, in the Buddha's realm, even a little of the hidden object of measurement is not taken as an object, because there is no conceptual thought of mixed apprehension of sound and meaning there. The pervasion is admitted. If you say that the hidden object of measurement does not appear in the Buddha's own appearance, and the hidden object of measurement is established in the other appearance of the disciples to be tamed, then the hidden object of measurement should be definitely non-existent, because it is not seen by the direct perception of the perfect Buddha, nor is it realized by implication. The pervasion and reason, including the organizational boundary, are admitted in the direction of the Buddha's pure land. Someone says that the intention of the eighth ground, the Dharma of the path of cultivation, should be without realizing omniscience, because it is not directly realized, the general meaning of
