Print. The five verses, such as these, are also explained by applying them to this person. Fourth, other Madhyamikas believe that there is no alaya-vijñana and also accept external objects. Some do not accept external objects but accept alaya-vijñana. However, those are the schools that believe that if something exists, it must exist by its own nature, and if it does not exist by its own nature, it does not exist. Here, even without alaya-vijñana, the connection of cause and effect can be established, so alaya-vijñana is not accepted. External objects and knowledge are the same as the emptiness of inherent existence taught in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra. And it is necessary to explain both the general and specific characteristics together, as explained in the Abhidharma. If we examine the way in which the imputed meaning of the terms applied to both object and knowledge exists, it is the same in that it cannot be found. Even so, there is no difference in establishing existence conventionally by the power of terms. Fifth, if one believes in establishment by its own nature, then it is necessary to be Svatantrika, like the Svātantrika-Vāibhāṣikas and the Pramāṇavārtika, etc. If one does not accept phenomena established by their own nature even conventionally, then it is undoubtedly necessary not to accept Svatantrika. Therefore, this comes down to preventing from the subtle refutation. Therefore, since the Pramāṇavārtika, etc., accept phenomena established by their own nature, they must accept the Svatantrika reason in order to prove it. Since teachers such as Chandrakirti do not accept phenomena established by their own nature, there is no need to accept the Svatantrika sign and commitment. The Prasannapadā says, "If one is a Madhyamika, then it is not reasonable to infer according to one's own continuum, because one has not accepted another party." Because of this statement, as a means of knowing that one does not accept Svatantrika, it is stated that one does not accept phenomena established by their own nature. (Explaining the way of speaking of Madhyamaka as non-dualistic.) The third school is: Ngok Lotsawa, the representative of the Buddha in the land of snows, and the former Sangpu abbots, the Sakya fathers and sons who are unparalleled in upholding the Buddha's teachings through teaching and practice, and Marpa and Mila, the great beings who hold the banner of the practice lineage.

And, Patshab Nyima Drak, the translator who pioneered the Madhyamaka free from extremes, and his direct disciple Zhangtang Sakpa Yeshe Jungne, and so on, and Macha Jangchub Tsondru, and his follower Zapa Ringmo, and Chegom Sherab Dorje, who spontaneously explains the definitive meaning from realization, and so on, from them until the scholars and accomplished ones of Tibet who appeared between the two scholars Yak and Zhon of the glorious Sakya school, all practiced the view of the Madhyamaka free from extremes themselves. And when teaching others, they all say in one voice: The meaning of Madhyamaka is to be free from all extremes such as existence and non-existence, is and is not. Therefore, all clinging to extremes and clinging to characteristics must be abandoned. For this, if the truth of the object that is initially grasped as true is not refuted, then the subsequent clinging to extremes cannot be refuted. Therefore, it is necessary to ascertain that all internal and external objects are without truth by means of reasoning such as one and many. This is the gross object to be refuted, and it is also the main cause of samsara. Therefore, the scriptures extensively explain the reasoning that refutes the truth of its object of attachment. After that is refuted, if emptiness is grasped as true, for example, even if a person riding a horse does not fall to the right, he has not gone beyond falling to the extreme of annihilation, just as he has fallen to the left, so that should also be refuted. Therefore, grasping at two and grasping at non-two should also be refuted, because no object to be grasped can be found in any of the four extremes. Therefore, not clinging there is called realizing the view of Madhyamaka. If a clinging arises, thinking that this is the view of Madhyamaka, then no matter which extreme is grasped, such as emptiness or non-emptiness, it has not gone beyond clinging to extremes, so it is not the view of Madhyamaka. That is what they think. Tsongkhapa's commentary on the Entry says: If the clinging to truth is well recognized, it will be known that there are many non-dualistic thoughts that do not cling to self, so all the objects grasped by thoughts will be refuted by the reasoning that examines that very nature, and all the wrong thoughts that want to be refuted will be dispelled. It seems that this is also intended for this school. This system is thoroughly determined by decisive reasoning and reliable scriptures, and will be explained in the following chapter on our own system. (Speaking of the extreme of permanence as Madhyamaka)
