If reality is not refuted, then the attachment to emptiness cannot be refuted, so emptiness must be established by reasoning. The mind that realizes only emptiness with reality is to establish the reality of the object by relying on the attachment to reality itself. The Svātantrika-Madhyamaka school accepts dharmas established by their own characteristics, and what is stated as proof is the appearance of proof. In all the reliable Svātantrika texts, it is said that it is only pleasing to not investigate in conventional truth, but it is not said that it is established by its own characteristics, etc. Since I want to explain these detailed classifications elsewhere, I will not elaborate here. Now I will talk about the classification of conventional truth, in which all conventional truths, such as "This is Devadatta," "This is Devadatta's eye," etc., all these designations of names, are considered to be established by the power of the designation of names, and there is no other way to establish them. This is definitely not the meaning of establishing by the power of conventional terms. As it is said in the Sutra of the Collection of Correct Dharmas: "Son of good family, when the world abides, there is attachment to birth and cessation, therefore, the Tathāgata, the one with great compassion, in order to completely abandon the place of fear in the world, is born by the power of names, and prevents it." It also says: "Son of good family, no dharma arises from this." The auto-commentary on the Two Truths also quotes this sutra, saying: "What is conventional truth? It is the names, letters, languages, and expressions that are designated by the world." The Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness says: "Abiding or arising, ceasing, existing, or not existing, inferior or equal, and different, the Buddha speaks by the power of worldly terms, but not by the power of truth." Regarding the meaning of being established by the power of conventional terms, the auto-commentary on the Two Truths says: "The designation of worldly terms is the scope of the world, which is the nature of knowledge and the knowable, but not the nature of speech, because it will be explained below." That is, it is established by the power of what appears to the minds of worldly people, and based on this, the designation of names, etc., are all said to be the meaning of being established by the power of terms.

Because the imputation of mere names is what is being refuted. If you think that this is the view of the Svatantrika school, then the venerable Chandrakirti also holds the same view. In the "Entering the Middle Way" it says: "That which depends on the mind is true in both cases, but in seeing the meaning clearly, both are false." And, "Here, how long does one remain awake? As long as one is not awake, there are these three." And in the commentary on "By the power of dizziness, hairs, etc.": "Similarly, those who have been harmed by the dizziness of ignorance and have not seen suchness, whatever is apprehended as the self-nature of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, etc., those are their conventional self-natures." Because it is said that by the power of what appears to the minds of worldly people, the object and everything established there are established by the power of conventional designations. Even though one only says the words "when searching for the meaning of what is designated, it cannot be found," one actually searches for it and finds it. When one examines and analyzes the way in which actions produce results, because one has accepted the destruction of things as the basis of actions and results. Therefore, to those who establish non-common tenets, ask this: Do you accept in terms of reason that actions produce the destruction of things, and then the destruction of things produces results? Or do you accept it in terms of convention? If it is the former, because it is understanding the meaning, I have nothing to say. If it is the latter, then in terms of convention, actions and results are different, because in terms of convention, the destruction of things separates the two, just like mountains separated by water. If you accept that, then in terms of convention, the previous seed of the tree and the later tree are different. If you also accept that, then in the context of the root text and commentary of "Why, in the world, only a small portion of the seed is sown," as the knower that there is no other birth in terms of convention, because in terms of convention, the previous seed of the tree and the later tree are not different, please remember this. The self-school realists' acceptance of non-depletion, attainment, and the alaya-consciousness as the basis of actions and results, and your acceptance of the destruction of things, from the perspective of the Prasangika Madhyamaka, are all the same mistake, while the first three are Buddhist tenets.
