whose movement depends on this. The great well of samsara, drifting without interruption from the peak of existence (Srid pa'i rtse mo) to the Avici hell (mnar med pa), letting oneself sink downwards, what is the use of striving? Although there are three pervasive defilements of ignorance and so on, afflictions, karma, and birth, the order of the former, the latter, and the middle cannot be determined. Because every day is tormented by the pain of suffering and the pain of change, it is like the handle of a water bucket. In short, without distinguishing between permanence and impermanence, self-nature existence and non-existence, etc., just observing beings who are helplessly drifting in samsara under the control of karma and afflictions, that is the characteristic of this observation. Therefore, some people add here that because the suffering of conditioning pervades above the two sufferings, this is not grasping the point, and it will be explained below. The second is, in very clear water, the image of the moon appears, and when the wind is not very strong and blows, the image of the moon, together with the water, disappears every moment, just as sentient beings in the ocean of the view of the perishable aggregates, in the blue water of ignorance, are violently blown by the wind of conceptual thought, and their own image disappears in an instant, observing this is the characteristic of this observation. This is the meaning of the suffering of conditioning. That is to say, the proponents of substantiality believe that even uncontaminated wisdom disappears in an instant, therefore, the mere disappearance in an instant is not considered the suffering of conditioning, but we believe that it is also born from conditions, that is, the aggregates produced by the condition of craving, the root of existence, but here in the Ratnagotravibhāga, quoting the sutra "is a deceptive dharma" in the commentary, it says that all impermanence is suffering. And as the Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way says: "All conditioned things are deceptive dharmas, therefore they are false." In this way, only momentary impermanence is considered as the suffering of conditioning. In the commentary, it says: "Every moment, the suffering of impermanence falls upon it." The third is, the same as the previous example, although it appears as the moon, but one sees the emptiness of the moon's own nature, like this, emptiness of self-nature is made the characteristic.

Focusing on sentient beings is the distinguishing feature here. Secondly, as it says in this treatise, "Completely protecting those who suffer is called great compassion." It has the aspect of wanting to save from suffering. The third is the characteristic of the three kinds of compassion that focus on sentient beings, phenomena, and non-objectification, respectively. Specifically, it focuses on sentient beings distinguished by suffering and the suffering of change, having the aspect of wanting to save them from that suffering; it focuses on sentient beings distinguished by the suffering of conditioned existence, having the aspect of wanting to save them from that suffering; and it focuses on sentient beings distinguished by emptiness of inherent existence, having the aspect of saving them by wanting to attain Buddhahood itself. The object of the first is ordinary beings and the learners among the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. The object of the second is, in addition to those, the non-learners among the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, as well as the Bodhisattvas who abide in the post-meditation of the ten Bhumis. The object of the third is, in addition to those, the Bodhisattvas who abide in the equipoise of the ten Bhumis. This should be understood. Secondly, explaining the meaning of the treatise itself that is to be entered into, there are two parts: explaining the cause, the Bodhisattva Bhumis, and the result, the Buddha Bhumi. The first has three aspects: showing the general nature through the union of skillful means and wisdom, explaining the individual natures through the excellence of the Paramitas, and explaining the individual qualities through the excellence of the categories. First, the uncontaminated wisdom of a Bodhisattva, which is accompanied by compassion and generosity, etc., cannot be established as the nature of mind itself on a Bhumi, because it is free from the elaboration of whether it is a Bhumi or not. However, from the perspective of another person's mind or one's own post-meditation mind, it obtains the name "Bhumi" when distinguished, because it becomes the basis of qualities. How are they divided into ten Bhumis? They are established as ten Bhumis by the differences in the number of qualities, the excellence of the power to eliminate obscurations, the excellence of the Paramitas such as generosity, and the increasing superiority of the births of ripening results such as Chakravartin kings, etc. It is not that there are divisions based on the differences in the object and aspect of their own nature. As it says in the Dashabhumika Sutra: Just as the traces of birds in the sky, the wise
