I have spoken. That is (its meaning). The second point has two aspects: established by scripture and established by reasoning. The first point is: This is to say that the sutras to be explained here as provisional meaning are: In the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra*, when explaining the three natures, it says: "The absence of characteristics, as well as the dependent nature, and also, the store consciousness of the ālaya-vijñāna is profound and subtle." etc., and in the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra* it says: "Just as a priceless jewel is wrapped in tattered clothes, the tathāgatagarbha, endowed with the thirty-two marks, exists in the continuum of sentient beings." These are (sutras of provisional meaning). The sutra that clarifies the definitive meaning is, in the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*: "Just as a doctor treats a sick patient, giving various medicines, similarly, the Buddha also spoke of mind-only to sentient beings." Here it is explained that the Yogācāra school considers the tathāgatagarbha to be of definitive meaning, while the Madhyamaka school explains it as provisional meaning. The view that the tathāgatagarbha is the dharmadhātu is the same for both Madhyamaka and Yogācāra. As it is also said in the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha*: "Suchness is in all things, although there is no difference, it is pure. Therefore, the Tathāgata is it, and all beings possess the tathāgatagarbha." However, whether or not the tathāgatagarbha of the causal stage is considered to be the naturally abiding lineage, and whether or not it is considered that existence in the manner of being real is ultimate truth, these two points are different. The Yogācāra school considers the dharmadhātu and the tathāgatagarbha to be ultimate truth existing in the manner of being real, therefore, the sutras that explain this point are interpreted as definitive meaning. The Madhyamaka school, on the other hand, considers that these are merely free from the elaborations of the four extremes, and do not exist in the manner of being real in either the causal or resultant stage. Therefore, the statement in the tathāgatagarbha sutras and the *Uttaratantra*, etc., that it exists in the manner of being real is interpreted as provisional meaning, because this existence in the manner of being real is conventional truth. The intention of existence in the manner of being real does not explain freedom from elaboration, and the necessity of abandoning the five faults, and what harms reality, existence in the manner of being real in name, if it exists in the manner of ultimate truth, it is the same as the self of the tirthikas, etc., these Sakya Paṇḍita has clearly

The so-called "Sungpa" refers to the immaculate intention of the Sutras and Treatises. As evidence for this, in the Ratnagotravibhāga, when explaining the characteristics of the Sangha Jewel, it says, "By realizing the pacification of the two selves, one knows the suchness; by realizing that the Dharma-nature of the All-Knowing is present in the continuum of sentient beings, one knows the extent." This is precisely saying that one knows the suchness, and that one knows that the Dharma-nature of the Tathāgatagarbha is present in the continuum of all sentient beings. Although the Dharma-nature and the self-nature of the Tathāgatagarbha are not conventional truths, their existence in a way that establishes them is a conventional truth. Now, those with coarse intellect who refute the aforementioned tenets, do not speak shamelessly. The second is knowable objects, etc. The third is thus, etc. As it says in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "Emptiness, as proclaimed by the Sugata, understand the distinctions of the Sutra Pitaka. Whatever beings are born from it, know all those dharmas to be provisional." Thus it is said. Relying on this quote, while distinguishing between the provisional and definitive meaning Sutras, to assert that the content of the provisional meaning Sutras does not even exist in conventional terms is to be separated from the wise and intelligent friends, and to be like a frog in a well, pretending to be wise. Third, refuting arising from both, there are two parts: stating the former position, and refuting it. First: The naked non-Buddhists who claim that the two are contradictory say: Those previous reasonings do not harm us, because we have not accepted arising solely from self or arising solely from other. Therefore, it arises from both self and other. The pot does not arise from something other than clay, so it also arises from self; since it arises from something other than the potter, etc., it also arises from other. Just as it is in the external world, so it is in the internal world. Maitreya arises in other lifetimes solely from the continuum of sentient beings that is the nature of life, so it also arises from self; since it arises from parents, Dharma, non-Dharma, and defilements, etc., it also arises from other. Second, there are two parts: refuting with the previous reasoning, and refuting with other reasoning. First, there are two parts: refuting with the reasoning that depends on two kinds of arising, and refuting with the reasoning that depends on two kinds of truth. First: From both, etc. Second: Here, etc. Second: Whatever, because, etc.
