Returning to the point. Otherwise, one would have to accept sounds, smells, and so on as objects of the dharma-dhātu. Which dharma-dhātu is that, as explained in the Abhidharma? It should be understood that this refutes many similar things. Second, dreams, and so on. Third, here, and so on, as explained in the commentary: Therefore, it is said that all three do not arise in relation to waking consciousness. In dreams, it is in relation to the consciousness that is dreaming the dream. Second, there are three reasons why the example of erroneous sense consciousness does not work: Consciousness without an object is similar to two kinds of appearances; if consciousness without an object arises, it is too extreme; and the basis and object are stated again and refuted. First, the senses, and so on. If one thinks that consciousness without an object can be established by the example of seeing hairs by someone with cataracts, that is not a valid example, because in that case, both the object and the consciousness are equally existent in distorted conventional reality and equally non-existent in valid conventional reality. This refutes the nominal existence of the appearance of mind consciousness in dreams. Using this as an example, it is urgently needed in all cases of establishing the lack of inherent existence of object appearances and subjects in the Madhyamaka system, such as establishing that all object and consciousness appearances to someone who has not awakened from the sleep of ignorance do not exist when they awaken from the sleep of ignorance. Second, there are two points: stating the extreme consequence; and refuting the defense against that fault. First, if, and so on. When stating the meaning of consciousness arising without an object, it is stated without adding the distinction to be refuted, but in meaning, the proponent's idea is that even though the object, the hair, does not exist nominally, the subject, consciousness, arises naturally. The Madhyamaka's own view is that the difference between the existence and non-existence of those two does not exist even ultimately, nor does it exist in valid conventional reality, nor does it exist in distorted conventional reality. Considering that there is a difference between existence and non-existence in any of those three, the extreme consequence is stated. This key point is not found in the Svātantrika and below, and seems to be a unique characteristic of this teacher, but if one does not understand this and only clings to this proponent's position and makes distinctions, then many refutations have already been stated before, and many more will occur in the future. Second, there are two points: stating the defense; and refuting that defense. First is.

Wherefore, etc. Secondly, there are two: a general presentation of refutation, and a separate explanation of refutation. The first is: potency, etc. These refute the establishment of potency by its own nature, but not the conventional. Secondly, there are three: refuting the potency of the present, refuting the potency of the future, and refuting the potency of the past. The first is: born, etc. The second is: unborn, etc. Thirdly, there are three: it follows that there is no certainty of arising; the fault-removal is the same as what is to be proven; and the oneness of the continuum for others is unreasonable. The first is: if, etc. The second is: if, etc. This refutes the establishment of permanence by its own characteristics, but not the conventional, because it is admitted that cause and effect are permanent. If it is thought that the proponent has not admitted that permanence is established by its own characteristics, then it is admitted in effect by admitting that permanence is one for permanent entities that are different in nature. The third is: Maitreya, etc. If it is asserted that cause and effect are different, then the oneness of the continuum and the oneness of permanence are unreasonable in conventional terms, like the example of Maitreya and Nearsidden. This establishes that the oneness of permanence is reasonable in conventional terms when cause and effect are not different, which is the essential point. Thirdly, there are two: following the tenets of others, and explaining the refutation of that. The first is: eye-consciousness, etc. The first verse shows that it is the potency of the all-ground, but although it is not different from consciousness, it shows that ordinary people perceive the sense organs as being corporeal. The second verse shows that without external objects, the potency of the all-ground matures and appears as forms, etc. The third verse shows that this is established by way of example. Secondly, there are four: stating the equality of the cause and reason, the fault-removal is refuted by the previously stated reasoning, all proofs are the same as what is to be proven, and it is shown that there is no scriptural proof. The first is: how, etc. The second is: if, etc. Thus, it is said that in a dream, a false eye is admitted to be the cause of false eye-consciousness, which is the meaning of falsity in relation to the world itself. However, some say that the form that has become the object of that is the form included in the dharma-sphere, which is due to mixing this system of establishment explained in the Abhidharma.
