Therefore, from the outside, since those who are proficient in the meaning of the scriptures will themselves abandon those views that are completely contrary to the meaning of the scriptures, it is said that they are abandoned later. If someone thinks that these do not exist in name, then this refers to abandoning existence in the way of establishing it later when realizing the nature of reality, which means that conventional truth becomes the means, and ultimate truth becomes the result of the means. Therefore, this exists in all conventional truths. The second case, in the commentary, it says: Not only does the ālaya-vijñāna exist, but also the pudgala exists, because he shows its existence to the beings to be tamed, in order to be able to embrace them. As it is said: O monks, the five skandhas are a burden, and the pudgala is the bearer of the burden. For some, only the skandhas are shown, as it is said: The so-called mind, the so-called intellect, the so-called consciousness, if it is cultivated and elevated for a long time with faith and discipline, etc., then in the next life it will be reborn in a good realm. All these are spoken according to intention. Therefore, the way to enter into the direct meaning is no different from before. Some people think that the pudgala and the ālaya-vijñāna here are both established in name, so even if "real existence" does not actually exist, it must be added, which is unreasonable. If so, then the bearer of the burden is established as a really existent pudgala, which would lead to non-existence even in name. But that is also unreasonable, because in this system, there exists a pudgala who is the agent of karma and the enjoyer of the vipāka. If it is not established as the bearer of the burden just because of this, then is it a burden of rabbit horns tied with turtle hair rope, carried by the son of a barren woman? Furthermore, for the statement "From where the sentient beings, purushas, and pudgalas are shown, all those dharmas should be understood as direct meaning," it is also necessary to add "real existence," because there is no difference. The third case is the latter part of the root verse, for the cases where even the Buddha has ego-grasping, and the things said to exist by their own nature are shown as direct meaning, it is necessary to explain from the three aspects of intention, necessity, and harm to reality, and there are many such cases. Here, in the commentary, a verse that is in accordance with the views of the Eastern Mountain School is quoted.
