Second, therefore, etc., it is said that it is established by the previous example itself. The reason for not contemplating karma and its results is that ordinary beings think, what is the reason why the results of virtuous and non-virtuous actions become like this? Because they cannot find the reason, they will end up slandering karma and its results. Therefore, the Blessed One said that the ripening of the results of all actions is inconceivable. Third, showing that the words such as the ālaya are the definitive meaning itself, there are two verses for ālaya etc. There are two aspects to this: raising a question and answering it. First, the commentary says, if you deny the connection of the results of actions in that way, then what about what is said in the Āgama Laṅkāvatāra and others, that the ālaya-vijñāna is the special basis of the power of limitless dharmas, the place of all seeds, like the ocean for waves, the cause of the arising of all things? Is that something that does not exist at all? It is said. Second, there are four points: showing that the ālaya is the definitive meaning, showing that the person and the aggregates are the definitive meaning, showing that the existence of things by their own nature is the definitive meaning, and explaining the difference between whether or not it is necessary to accept in name what is said in the definitive meaning. The first point has the nature of the ālaya, the necessity of showing the ālaya, the meaning of the word ālaya, the reason why it is not said to be harmful to things, the reason why it is necessary to accept the ālaya, refuting the reason for not accepting it, and refuting the argument. The first point is that it is not that there is a different nature from the six aggregates, but that the nature of the clear consciousness from sentient beings to the ground of Buddhahood exists continuously, and this itself does not belong to the category of good or non-good, nor does it belong to the category of the six objects, and its nature is emptiness, so from the point of view of being able to act, it is established as the ālaya. It relies on the aggregates and clings to it as "I", and becomes a part of the innate ego-clinging, and it is established as the afflicted mind. It belongs to the category of dharma among the six objects, and it is established as the sixth consciousness, just like gold and gold earrings, and gold necklaces, when the latter two exist, it is not that the former does not exist. If you do not understand this reasoning, you will take the ālaya and

If one thinks that if one accepts the ālaya-vijñāna, one must accept it according to the Mind-Only school, the Madhyamaka-Prāsaṅgika school does not even accept these in name, which shows a lack of understanding of the distinctions between the different schools. Secondly, in the commentary, immediately after the previous doubt, it says, "It is not like that, because it is taught in this way to show the existence of it to those who are to be tamed." This means that it is not that there is no ālaya-vijñāna as taught in the Laṅkāvatāra Sutra, etc., but because for those who are to be tamed who cannot enter into suchness from the very beginning, the ālaya-vijñāna and the person, etc., are taught, they will enter into the Mahāyāna, and later they will enter into the reality. This shows the necessity of teaching the ālaya-vijñāna, and such a necessity exists for all conventional truths. Thirdly, the commentary says, "Because the nature of all things follows, it should be understood that emptiness itself is taught by the term ālaya-vijñāna." Why is the previous one called ālaya-vijñāna? It is not that it is established as true like the Mind-Only school, and can be the basis for all the habits of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, but because it is only emptiness that is established as ālaya-vijñāna. Because it is emptiness, it is said that the nature of all things, that is, the cause, follows. This refers to the cause of the arising of all things that was taught in the context of doubt, that is, the meaning that "for whom emptiness is possible, for him all is possible" is contained here. This shows the meaning of the term ālaya-vijñāna, but it is not showing emptiness as ālaya-vijñāna, nor is it showing it as the basis of intention and the basis of imputation, because in this system, there is no separation between the basis of imputation and the imputed object. Fourthly, the reason why there is no mention of what harms the real here is that it is the occasion when only the ālaya-vijñāna mentioned in the Laṅkāvatāra Sutra, etc., is taught as provisional, and not the occasion when the truly established ālaya-vijñāna that the Mind-Only school believes in is taught as provisional, so there is no harm to the real. In short, if one understands the difference between the way the Madhyamaka and Mind-Only schools accept the ālaya-vijñāna taught in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sutra and the Laṅkāvatāra Sutra, etc., these points will be self-liberated.
