The meaning of the apparent contradiction in what Naring Lonpa said, "Even when old," that karma has ceased, is: Immediately after karma is created, it decays nominally and ceases nominally, but it does not decay or cease inherently. As stated in the sutra: 'What is said to be inexhaustible? What is said to be the exhaustion of karma? The nature of emptiness is inexhaustible; the nature of convention is shown to be exhausted.' Therefore, the meaning of these two is that for all Madhyamikas, it is not merely following the destruction of the words "inherent" and "nominal." The meaning of decaying and ceasing nominally is that although it appears that way to the mind of the nominalist, it is not completely cut off. The meaning of decaying and ceasing inherently is that what previously existed inherently later completely disappeared. When this is applied to a moment, it means that the previous moment completely disappeared in the time of the later moment. When applied to a continuum, it means that the generation of similar kinds completely disappeared. The proof that karma does not cease inherently is that it is not born inherently. As stated in the Root Wisdom, 'Because it is not born, it will not become futile.' Here, the meaning is that because it does not cease, it can produce the result of karma. Nowadays, the Madhyamika view holds that the real meaning of the two negations is confused. Those who cannot comprehend that the cause is neither existent nor non-existent between the cause and the effect will not find this meaning even if they search for eons. This will be clarified in the preliminary conditions to be explained later. Second, combining this with scripture: The Root Wisdom states: 'Because karma is not born, therefore inherent nature does not exist. Because that is not born, therefore it will not become futile.' The sutra also states: 'The lifespan of humans is a hundred years; although it is said that they can live that long, years do not accumulate.' This argument is the same as that. 'What is said to be inexhaustible? What is said to be the exhaustion of karma?' etc., as quoted earlier. The third part is divided into two points: presenting a new view and refuting it. The first point is: Some later Madhyamikas believe that for all views that hold that things are inherently established, destruction is not a real entity; while for the Madhyamika view that holds that inherent nature is not established, destruction is established as a real entity, which is the key. For the first view, such as a sprout,

When a thing is destroyed, since all the component things of the sprout have disappeared, and other things such as vases other than the sprout have not been obtained, it is thought that this destruction is not a thing at all. Because neither the individual sense bases such as blue, nor the collection of things that are its own components such as vases, can serve as the definition of that destruction, it is thought that it is not a thing. The latter view is that, for example, for the five aggregates of clinging, neither the individual aggregates nor the collection of aggregates can be distinguished from these two in terms of essential difference and unity, and the definition of clinging cannot be established. Although clinging cannot serve as the definition of these three, just as it is not contradictory that a thing named clinging is dependent on its own aggregates, destruction is also the thing to be destroyed, and although there is nothing similar to it that can serve as a definition, it is a thing that arises dependent on the thing to be destroyed. To prove this, the first of the two reasons stated in the Clear Differentiation of the Two Truths is: In the Ten Bhumi Sutra, it says, "Aging and death are caused by the condition of birth." Death is the destruction of the being that dies, and it is said that this is produced by the condition of birth. Also in the same sutra, it says, "Death also exists in two functions, namely, destroying actions and producing the cause of uninterrupted complete ignorance." It is said that death performs two functions, namely, death is the function of the cause, and it is said that death produces ignorance. Therefore, destruction has the cause of production, and destruction is able to produce the result. Although this is the usual destruction, it is also the same for the destruction of the first moment in the second time, and it also shows the cause of the destruction of the first moment in the second time. Therefore, whether beings are born and die, and whether they dwell in the second moment or do not dwell in the second moment, are all completely the same in terms of whether they are considered things, and whether the cause produces or does not produce. Considering this, the Root Wisdom says, "Existence and non-existence are conditioned." And in the Sixty Stanza Reasoning, it also says, "Nirvana is the exhaustion of the cause itself, Nirvana is the object of exhaustion." Meaning that things like sprouts, and the non-existence of that destroyed thing, are both conditioned, and the exhaustion of the cause like oil is the result like a lamp.
