There is nothing else, so it will not become limitless. Third, there are two ways to establish it with reasoning in this treatise: refuting the four extremes of arising with reasoning, and refuting the arguments of self and other schools. The first has three parts: explaining the meaning of refuting the true arising of dependent origination, explaining the meaning of dependent origination arising from dependence, and explaining the benefit of realizing dependent origination by abandoning the two extremes. The first has three parts: stating the proposition briefly, explaining the reasoning in detail, and the meaning established by that method. The first is, "That itself," etc. The second has four parts: arising from self, arising from other, arising from both, and refuting arising without cause. The first has two parts: refuting with the reasoning of the commentary, and refuting with the reasoning of the treatise. The first has three parts: refuting self-arising in reality, refuting self-arising in worldly convention, and summarizing the established meaning of the two. The first has two parts: the fault of the accepted meaning being impermissible, and the fault of the unaccepted meaning being established. The first has two parts: the fault of arising becoming meaningless, and the fault of arising becoming unnecessary. The first is, "That is," etc., which is the reasoning of Buddhapālita. The second is, "Already arisen," etc., which is supplemented by Chandrakirti. The second has three parts: the fault of arising becoming limitless, the fault of the nature of cause and effect being confused, and the fault of mutual understanding becoming the same. The first is, "Seed," etc., which is the reasoning of Buddhapālita. The second is, "Agent," etc., the first two lines are the actual fault, and the latter two lines are the refutation of the refutation of its fault. The third is, "If," etc., the latter two are supplemented by Chandrakirti. The second is, "Because," etc., even in worldly convention, the name of one is not accepted for things like sprouts, but only for cause and effect, it is uncertainly manifested. The third is, "Therefore," etc. Second, refuting with the reasoning of the treatise is, "Self-arising," etc., as it says in the Root Wisdom: "If the cause and effect are the same, it will never be reasonable. If the cause and effect are the same, the producer and the produced will be one." And, "If the tree is fire, the agent and कार्य(藏文, དངོས་པོ།,梵文天城体,kārya,梵文罗马拟音,kārya,汉语字面意思,行为)will be one." This is the quoted statement. Second, there are two ways to refute arising from other: stating the assertion and,

Explanation of the saying of the producer. First, those who speak of self-entity say: Here, things do not arise from themselves, this is certain. This view is also reasonable in itself. If someone says, how can it arise from other things? This is unreasonable. Like this, the four conditions that have become other, namely the cause, the object, the immediate, and the master, these conditions are what cause the production of things, so one must refer to such scriptures, and even unwillingly, one must admit that it arises from others. In the Root Wisdom, the first chapter is about refuting the theory of other-generation, in which there is a verse that says: "The conditions are four, namely the cause and the sequence." Here, this verse is quoted to express the former's point of view. The second part has three points: refuting other-generation in relation to the two truths; explaining the two benefits of such refutation; refuting the Vijnanavada school that argues for other-generation. The first part has two points: refuting the arising from others in the ultimate truth; refuting the arising from others in the conventional truth. The first part has two points: stating the reasoning of refutation; eliminating worldly harm. The first part has three points: stating the refutation of being too extreme; refuting other-generation based on time; refuting other-generation based on the four possibilities. The first part has two points: inferring that it arises from things of different kinds; inferring that the arising is uncertain. The first is: from others, etc. As stated in the Root Wisdom: "If the cause and the effect are different, it should never be reasonable. If the cause and the effect are different, the cause and the non-cause are equal." This is the reasoning in it. The second part has two points: the real inference; eliminating the dispute. The first is: everything, etc. These two are both arguments with the same reason. The second part has two points: the dispute and the answer. The first is: extremely, etc. The second is: as it is, etc. Because the proof and the thing to be proved are the same, it is not established. The second part has two points: because there is no otherness in different times, other-generation is refuted; because there is no arising in the same time, other-generation is refuted. The first part has two points: the real refutation; eliminating the dispute. The first is: sprout, etc. The second part has two points: restating the views of other schools; explaining the method of refuting that view.
