means. Regarding the explanation of the meaning of this treatise, there seem to be about three among the later Tibetans, but none of them seem to be on the right path. In conventional truth, the refutation of other-origination is clearly stated in the treatise. It is also unreasonable to assert that conditioned phenomena are not deceptive. The sutra says: 'The ultimate truth is only one, namely, nirvana, which is of the nature of non-deception.' Nagarjuna said: 'Nirvana is the only truth; whatever the Buddhas have spoken is false at that time. Why do the wise not accept this?' It also says: 'All conditioned phenomena are of the nature of deception; therefore, they are all false.' Therefore, this is a difference arising from different ways of understanding conventional truth, so it must be refuted. The venerable Sakya Pandita said: 'Regarding the distinctions between Madhyamaka, Pramana, and philosophical tenets, I respectfully ask you. Although there are many who speak about this meaning, it is only I who truly understand its meaning, due to the blessings of Manjushri. In conventional truth, the assertion of non-deception is the system of Pramana, which is in accordance with the Svatantrika school. The Prasangikas, in short, do not accept truth in conventional truth.' That is why he said so. The elaborations of others will not be written for now. Third, elaborating on the way of establishing the Prasangika's system in detail, there are two: establishing the system and eliminating the faults of that system. The first is divided into three: establishing one's own system, refuting others' systems, and eliminating the faults of one's own system. The first, what is to be established is the conventional truth like illusion and the ultimate truth free from elaboration. For both of these, it is first necessary to refute the truth of appearance, so the non-truth of appearance is the main thing to be established. The means of establishing are two: scripture and reasoning. The scripture is the definitive sutras, and the reasoning is the reasoning of Prasangika. The second is divided into two: identifying what is to be refuted and explaining the reasoning of refutation. The first, what is to be refuted on the path is all mistaken appearances. Here, what is to be refuted by scripture and reasoning are the object and the subject. The first is divided into two: what is imputed by the ignorance of conceptual imputation and what is imputed by innate ignorance. The first is what the proponents of reality establish through conceptual thought based on seemingly valid scriptures and reasonings, namely, the addition of existence.

The two extremes of extremes and denial of existence. First, there are two types of self: the self of the person and the self of phenomena. The first is the person who is other than the aggregates as posited by outsiders, and the person who is the same entity as the aggregates as posited by many respected members of one's own school, and the person who is inexpressible. The second is all those who, from the outsider Samkhyas to the Mind-Only school, posit forms and other phenomena as truly existent. The second is the materialist who posits that there is no good or bad from causes, and no happiness or suffering in future lives from results. The second, posited by innate ignorance, is the object of clinging to a person and to phenomena, which is common to all beings whether they have entered a philosophical system or not, and which is posited as a person and as phenomena. The object of clinging, which is true, is posited as the self of the person and the self of phenomena. The second, the subject, is all the wisdom and wrong views that arise in those objects. As the Four Hundred says, "What is seen by discrimination is bondage, therefore, one should strive to cut off discrimination here." And as the Entrance to the Middle Way says, "Therefore, by this reasoning of dependent arising, one cuts off all nets of wrong views." Thus it is. The second, the reasoning that refutes, includes four: the consequence of stating contradictions, the inference that is established for others, the balance of equal reasons, and the unestablishedness of the proof being the same as what is to be proven. The third, the way to avoid faults on one's own side, has two aspects: avoiding faults in relation to the conventional, and avoiding faults in relation to the ultimate. The first is that there are refutations in the texts that acknowledge what is posited by the opponent, which is a response that depends on the needs of others. There is also a response that says that this is not subject to investigation, which is the real answer. The second has two aspects: no commitment and no reason. The first is what Nagarjuna said: "If I had even a little commitment to this matter, then I would have such a fault. But since I have no such thing, I am completely without fault." And Aryadeva said, "Whether it is existence, non-existence, or both, whoever has no such position, even after a long time, cannot be refuted." The meaning of what was said is that the Madhyamikas of today commit to truly existent phenomena.
