In order to prove the thesis of Svatantrika, a reason accepted by both the proponent and the opponent is established, which is considered the reason of Svatantrika. However, Prasangikas refute it with various reasonings, and merely state the contradiction by establishing a reason that is known only to the opponent, thus it is considered the reason of Prasangika. Fifth, Svatantrikas believe that on a validly established example of similarity, the pervasion must be accepted by both the proponent and the opponent, thus it is considered the example of Svatantrika. However, Prasangikas believe that it is merely an example known to the opponent, and they themselves do not believe that the pervasion is established on that example, thus it is considered the example of similarity of Prasangika. Sixth, Svatantrikas consider all inferences for the sake of others as Svatantrika syllogisms. However, Prasangikas believe that merely by stating the subject, example, and reason, all of which are known to the opponent, the opponent's wrong conceptions are dispelled, thus it is considered an inference known to others. In the Clear Words (Prasannapadā), it is said, "Inference known to oneself," which means inference known to the opponent himself, thus the meaning is the same. Some self-proclaimed clever people say that Svatantrikas must prove a dharma established by its own character, thus they accept the reason of Svatantrika, while Prasangikas do not need to prove it, thus they do not accept the reason of Svatantrika. This statement shows that they do not even know where the direction is. Because Svatantrikas, when proving the thesis of negating the four extremes of arising, have the fault of having to prove a dharma established by its own character. In conventional terms, it is unreasonable to distinguish by accepting or not accepting the reason of Svatantrika and the thesis of Svatantrika. Because Prasangikas also prove that where there is smoke, there is fire, by the reason of smoke, and prove that the other person is capable of awakening by the reason of body and speech that can awaken others, and prove that the other person is irreversible by the reason of body and speech that is irreversible, etc. There are many ways to prove the distinctive dharma on the commonly appearing subject by means of reasons and examples that are commonly appearing to both the proponent and the opponent. If it cannot become the reason of Svatantrika merely by these, then how can those established by the previous Svatantrikas become the reason of Svatantrika? One should think carefully.

Thus. Therefore, do not deceive sentient beings to be tamed with baseless statements such as "the meaning of Svatantrika is autonomy, and the meaning of autonomy is true establishment." These are just brief summaries, and detailed explanations will be given elsewhere. Those with wisdom should understand from the Commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way (Mūlamadhyamakakārikā). The second part has three differences: the basis, the path, and the fruit. First, in terms of convention, there are differences between not accepting other-origination and accepting other-origination; not accepting the common basis of conditioned phenomena and non-deception and accepting the common basis of conditioned phenomena and non-deception; not considering the definition of valid cognition (pramāṇa) to be non-deceptive knowledge and considering the definition of valid cognition (pramāṇa) to be non-deceptive knowledge; valid cognition (pramāṇa) has two types, direct perception and inference, and on top of that, there are differences between defining four types: analogy, measurement, and scriptural authority, and defining only two types: direct perception and inference; and the difference between distinguishing both the subject and the predicate, and not distinguishing the predicate. Second, in terms of the path, there are differences between the Hearers and Solitary Realizers considering the realization of selflessness of phenomena and not considering the realization of selflessness of phenomena, and the difference between considering the meditative equipoise of the noble ones to be without appearance and with appearance. Third, in the state of Buddhahood, there are differences between considering meditative equipoise and subsequent attainment to be without difference and considering them to be different. In short, the former of these paired combinations are the views of the Prasangikas, and the latter are the views of the Svatantrikas. Second, refuting the views of the Svatantrikas, in the case of establishing the lack of inherent existence of phenomena, it is unreasonable to think that as the subject, both the opponent and oneself must accept it, because if the subject itself is established when examining the state of the subject itself, it would entail the fault of being truly established. This passage seems to be the core of the Prasangika reasoning. Furthermore, if one is a Madhyamika, one should not infer according to one's own continuum, because there is no acceptance from other schools. The meaning of this passage is that in the case of establishing the lack of inherent existence of phenomena, one should not use Svatantrika reasoning, because if one uses Svatantrika reasoning, one must, on the basis of the subject phenomenon being established by valid cognition, negate the self-nature to be refuted, and then establish the lack of self-nature as a difference, but because on the basis of the subject phenomenon being established by valid cognition, the opponent has not accepted self-nature, nor has he accepted the lack of self-nature as a difference, because in that case, the subject itself cannot be established.
