Regarding afflictions, they are also afflictions with objects and aspects as stated in the two Abhidharma treatises, but this school explains them as ignorance with afflictive clinging to reality. Furthermore, the afflictions of views and non-views dominated by it, and other ways of explaining afflictions in the Abhidharma, even if they are manifest, cannot be abandoned. Even though it is impossible to abandon the manifest afflictions included in the realm of the peak of existence as explained in the Abhidharma, which have the aspects of quiescence and coarseness, one can abandon them by familiarizing oneself with the path of realizing the coarse selflessness of persons as previously explained. Moreover, regarding the person who has abandoned afflictions in this way, it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Even for those whose minds are with objects, Nirvana is difficult to attain. If afflictions are abandoned, then one will quickly be liberated." These and other scriptures are combined and explained. Regarding this, is the difference between the wisdom that realizes the sixteen aspects such as impermanence even without realizing suchness, and the realization of the selflessness of persons, but without fully realizing the characteristics of the selflessness of persons, the tenet of the Abhidharma or the tenet of the Madhyamaka-Prasangika? If it is the former, it is unreasonable, because in that tenet, there is no way to realize the selflessness of persons other than that. Although it seems to acknowledge the latter, this has not grasped the point, because in that tenet, even the mere realization of the selflessness of persons cannot be established without realizing the absence of true existence of persons. Because, if one does not realize the absence of true existence of persons, merely seeing the absence of a permanent, single, and independent self as examined by non-Buddhists is considered to be the realization of the selflessness of persons, and this view has been repeatedly refuted in this treatise. In this tenet, it is also impossible to directly realize the sixteen aspects such as impermanence without seeing suchness, because to directly realize them, one must directly realize the eight characteristics of the cessation truth and the path truth. To directly realize them, one must directly realize the cessation truth and the path truth. If one directly realizes the cessation truth, one must directly realize the ultimate truth, because it is said in the commentary: "Regarding this, the truths of suffering, origin, and path belong to the category of conventional truth, and the truth of cessation is the nature of ultimate truth." Therefore, the sixteen aspects such as impermanence are directly
