Therefore, it was said that this is far beyond all the actions of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. The other meanings are easy to understand, but the great significance of knowing one's own realm is that the Mahayana's own unique realm, the cessation that cuts off all elaborations, is known through hearing and thinking from the stages of accumulation and application. Although it is directly known from the first ground, its greatness lies in its power to make the clinging to characteristics no longer arise, and this is obtained from the seventh ground, so the meaning is 'overwhelms.' The second part has three aspects: that this scripture proves that the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas have the knowledge of the absence of inherent existence of phenomena; that this is proven by other scriptures and reasoning; and that this is connected to the view of the master Nagarjuna. The first point is that the previous scripture proves that the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas have the knowledge of the absence of inherent existence of the aggregates of phenomena. If this were not the case, then even a Bodhisattva who has generated the mind of enlightenment for the first time would be able to overwhelm them by discriminating with their own intelligence, because they lack the knowledge of the absence of inherent existence of things, like the detachment from desire in worldly phenomena. The second part has two aspects: proving through two reasonings; proving through three scriptures. The first point is: the Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha Arhats will not abandon all the subtle defilements that are practiced in the three realms, because they lack the knowledge of the absence of inherent existence of the aggregates, like the non-Buddhists. Because of fixating on forms etc. as true, the wisdom becomes inverted, so they will also not realize the selflessness of persons, because of fixating on the aggregates, which are the basis for imputing a person or self, as true. Secondly, the first scripture proves that the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas realize the absence of inherent existence of the aggregates by proving the pervasiveness in the previous argument. In the Ratnavali it says: 'As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there is clinging to self. If there is clinging to self, there is also action. From that (action) also arises (new) life. The three paths have no beginning, no end, and no middle, the center of samsara is like a circle of fire. Like a circle of fire, these mutually causal things become samsara. Because it is not seen in oneself, others, and in the three times, the clinging to self will be exhausted. From then on, action and life will also be exhausted.' The first two verses show that as long as there is true clinging to the aggregates, there will be the view of the perishable, which is the true clinging to a person.

Rong, if such a notion (of self) exists, then the accumulation of karma will lead to rebirth in samsara, and thus the three—afflictions, karma, and maturation—will revolve without interruption, indicating that one cannot be liberated from samsara. The subsequent verses indicate that if one possesses the wisdom to observe both one's own and others' aggregates, as well as the three times—past, present, and future—and cannot find (inherent existence), then one can be liberated from samsara by destroying the root of samsara, which is wrong view. The second scriptural reference is from the same scripture: from "As the eye is deluded" to the nineteen verses ending with "No place, no taking, extinguished." First, it establishes that the elements such as earth, water, fire, and wind have no self-nature, and then it shows that the form produced by these elements also has no self-nature. Similarly, the remaining aggregates are also shown to have no self-nature, thereby abandoning the craving associated with happiness and the craving to be separated from suffering. It indicates that if one abandons these, one can be liberated from samsara. If someone thinks that these were also spoken for the sake of Bodhisattvas, that is not correct. Because it was spoken for the sake of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Because immediately after that, it says: "For the sake of Bodhisattvas, the Bodhisattva also, having seen thus, will surely want to attain Bodhi. However, he connects to existence until Bodhi with compassion." The third scriptural reference is that in the scriptures taught to the Shravakas, in order for the Shravakas to abandon the obscuration of afflictions, (the Buddha) said: "Form is like a mass of foam, feeling is like a bubble on water, perception is like a mirage, formations are like a plantain tree, consciousness is like an illusion, so said the Kinsman of the Sun." Third, in explaining this meaning, the Acharya (Aryadeva) said: "In the Great Vehicle, non-arising is taught, the exhaustion of others is emptiness, exhaustion and non-arising, in meaning are truly one, therefore be patient." Similarly, "The Blessed One, knowing existence and non-existence, in the instruction to Katyayana, refuted both existence and non-existence." Third, refuting the argument. In the commentary, it says: "If the absence of self in phenomena is also taught in the Shravaka Vehicle, then the teaching of the Great Vehicle would become meaningless."
