Furthermore, there is a fault of being excessive because of seeing the intermediate signs and not striving for the sake of the fruit. Also, some people slander the fruit of good deeds, saying that even if one practices the path, one will not attain liberation and omniscience, because defilements are the nature of the mind, like the blackness of charcoal, which cannot be removed. Even if it can be removed, it is as unstable as the temperature of water, and there is no time to complete it. Even if one practices as if relying on effort, one will not reach the ultimate, therefore slandering the fruit, which is also unreasonable. Because the first two signs are not established, and the third is uncertain, there is no proof, and it is seen that all faults and virtues become different from habit, therefore there is a fault. Second, refuting the extreme of imputing existence, in general, for a person, there are three minds: the mind of the basis of examination, the mind of refutation, and the mind after refutation. The first is when one has not entered a worldly school of thought, or even if one has entered, one abides arbitrarily without examining the school of thought, thinking "This is given by the gods," "This is an offering," etc., relying on the aggregates and clinging to merely a person; thinking "This is a chariot," "This is a pot," etc., relying on the limbs and parts and clinging to merely a dharma. The second is when logicians insert the rationality of reason into these dharmas and persons and acknowledge them as true. The third is when Madhyamikas analyze with reason and ultimately acknowledge nothing. Among these three, the dharma and merely the person grasped by the first are not to be refuted in conventional terms, because the sutra says, "The world argues with me, but I do not argue with the world. Whatever exists in the world, I also say exists. Whatever does not exist, I also say does not exist." As it is said, all terms such as existence and non-existence, yes and no, coming and going, etc., must be acknowledged as they are known in the world at the time of conventional establishment, because "conventional truth is the means," just as when one wants to examine the ultimate truth, one must first acknowledge it as a means. When analyzing with reason, it must be refuted, because when analyzing, one has gone beyond conventional truth, because if one analyzes these things, then they cannot be found to exist apart from the thing that possesses them.

Because it has already been said. Not finding it at that time means that the ultimate truth arises through skillful means, because it is the skillful means of that time. Some people, when analyzing with reason, think that they do not negate appearance but negate truth. This is not understanding the meaning of establishing that the car is negated as true when the car itself is not found when analyzing the parts of the car. If you think that this contradicts "Therefore, one should not analyze conventional truth," it is because rational analysis is not allowed when establishing conventional terms. If rational analysis is applied, conventional truth cannot be found, because this is the time to establish conventional truth. This is the meaning. As it is said in the Commentary on the Awakening Mind, "One should not analyze the results of actions." And in the Introduction, it is said, "Thinking about the results of actions is also prohibited." The meaning is the same. Thus, the reasoning that refutes the two self-grasps that arise together is, as it is said in the Precious Garland, "A person is not earth, not water, not fire, not wind, not space, not consciousness, not everything, what else is a person besides that? A person is composed of six elements, so how can it be true? Likewise, each of the elements is not true because it is composed." This means that when searching for a person among the six elements, one cannot find them, so one determines that there is no self of a person. Moreover, each of the six elements cannot be found when searching in its own parts, so one determines that there is no self of phenomena. It is also said in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life, "I am not bones, blood, etc." and so on, searching for and not finding the parts of my body, and "The body is not feet, thighs, etc." and so on, the body itself is also searched for and not found in its own parts, and "That is also a collection of limbs, and because the limbs are divided, and because the parts are analyzed, analyzed to the extreme, the dust is also divided into directions, and the directions are also separated from the parts, like space, so there is no dust." This means that the parts are ultimately impossible to find like space. These reasons are all reasons for establishing the absence of two selves. These reasons for refuting the self that arises together, even at the time of ordinary beings, are as it is said, "After hearing emptiness," after the foundation has awakened, when one wants to hear the view of the Middle Way school, one should explain it, and at that time one should also refute the four extremes of birth, and
