Possessing mindfulness, and possessing diligence in pursuing meaning, that is, possessing three characteristics. The second is, as stated in the Ratnavali: "Its practice is briefly summarized, Briefly, it is faith and wisdom, Because of having faith, one relies on the Dharma, Because of having wisdom, one knows reality." As it says, the four assemblies possess faith that does not stray from the Dharma, and wisdom that is able to understand the meaning of what is being said, that is, it is taught as possessing two characteristics. Those are also just in terms of the main aspects, but it should be known that both are needed in both cases. Such listeners can be categorized into two types: those whose minds have not been transformed by philosophical tenets and those whose minds have been transformed. The first is, as stated in the Dasabhumika Sutra: "Just as one knows fire from smoke, just as one knows water from waterfowl, a Bodhisattva with intelligence, knows the lineage from the signs." The way of knowing the lineage from the signs as stated is, as stated in the Entering the Path of the Bodhisattva: "Whenever, in the state of an ordinary being, upon hearing of emptiness, joy repeatedly arises within, tears well up from extreme joy, and the hairs of the body stand on end, that one has the seed of the Buddhas, that is a worthy vessel, the ultimate truth should be taught to him." Like that. For him, from the very beginning, the ultimate truth should be taught in the manner of establishing characteristics and practicing meditation, because for him, the qualities that follow will arise. The second is those whose minds have been transformed by philosophical tenets, as stated in the Entering the Path of the Bodhisattva: "Yogis also differ by intelligence, the higher ones harm the lower ones." As it says, the four Buddhist philosophical schools, regarding the views on ultimate truth of the lower and lower schools, the higher and higher schools will state harms, thereby incorporating them into the higher schools, and the speaker is only the Madhyamika, for the realists who speak of self and other schools, the higher and higher schools will state harms, ultimately incorporating them into the Madhyamika school, and also the Madhyamika, by stating the harms of their own system to them, ultimately incorporating them into the ultimate Madhyamika school, there are these three situations. Among them, the first is clear in their respective treatises. The second is, from the Madhyamika treatises themselves, using the Sautrantika's tenet that "if it exists, it is pervaded by impermanence" to

Refuting the tenets of the Vaibhashika school, which asserts the existence of uncreated things. Refuting the Sautrantika school's belief in the real existence of atoms with the reasoning of the Mind-Only school that combines six elements simultaneously. Refuting the Mind-Only school's belief in the real existence of mind with the reasoning of one and many being separate, as it is said. Third, to the Samkhya school, which accepts self-origination, stating the contradiction as an overreach; to one's own school's realists who accept other-origination, posing the same reasons for blame; to the naked ascetics who accept origination from both, presenting harm to both; to the Lokayata school who accept origination from no cause, posing the same reasons for blame, etc., guiding to the realization of non-origination by stating these. In short, it should be known that all realists who propound tenets can be made receptive to listening to the suchness of Madhyamaka through the means of refutation and establishment. If one does not understand this kind of classification of listeners, one will see that the sutras say that listeners need to awaken the Mahayana lineage, and that all refutation and establishment are only directed at those who have entered into tenets, and there are many who have not had their minds changed by tenets but want to listen to the Madhyamaka view, and one will wonder what these are like, like a guest who has lost his way, and therefore it is explained out of compassion for them. Fourth, there are three: preparation, main part, and conclusion. First, in the preparation, the perception is to perceive oneself as a patient, the speaker as a doctor, the Dharma as medicine, diligently practicing as curing the illness, and the motivation is to arouse the Mahayana mind of enlightenment. Second, abandon listening like an overturned vessel that does not turn the ear, like a vessel with a hole in the bottom that listens but does not maintain mindfulness, and like a poisonous vessel that even if maintained with mindfulness is distracted by attachment, hatred, and busyness and cannot become a cause of liberation, and constantly maintain mindfulness properly so that it becomes a cause of liberation. Third, dedicate to perfect enlightenment with the wisdom that does not fixate on the three spheres. Fifth, the virtuous friend Tsang Nagpa said this: In this regard, for the time being, the individual who teaches the particularly excellent Dharma does not understand the meaning of this, and lacks confidence.
