To assert that it does not exist in name is a manifestation of crude intelligence, not understanding the point of distinguishing right and wrong through the gate of the two truths. In this way, it would follow that conventional truth does not exist in name either. If the ālaya-vijñāna is accepted, as it is said in the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha*, "objects, sentient beings, self, and consciousness," it must be accepted, so saying that there is no way to accept external objects is also a fault of not understanding that there are two ways to explain the ālaya-vijñāna. Otherwise, if consciousness is accepted, as it is said, "consciousness freed from the grasped and the grasper is ultimate," it must be accepted, so saying that there is no way to accept non-truth is the same in every way. Not accepting self-awareness in name is also the ultimate point of not accepting that which is established by its own characteristic in name. Saying this is also unreasonable, because if the noble meditative equipoises each accept the wisdom of self-awareness, it is not necessary to accept a phenomenon established by its own characteristic. If the consciousness of one's own continuum is known by the direct perception of another's own continuum, it would lead to an infinite regress of direct perception. If direct perception does not know at all, it would lead to one's own mind being hidden from oneself, thus falling into the tenets of the debaters. The meaning of saying that the omniscient wisdom does not know itself is, does the omniscient wisdom itself, the omniscient wisdom, not exist even in name? Or, although it exists in name, what is it that it does not know? If it is the former, it would lead to there never being a wisdom that directly realizes the omniscient wisdom. If it is the latter, it would lead to the omniscient wisdom not directly knowing all knowable things. From the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā*, the *Vigrahavyāvartanī*, and the *Prasannapadā*, it is a mistake to use the scriptures that refute self-awareness that can withstand reasoning as a means of proof, and apply them to refuting self-awareness in name. Because in the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā*, when analyzing self-awareness by using the example of a lamp and refuting it, just as self-illumination is refuted, so too is the dispelling of darkness refuted, therefore it would follow that dispelling darkness in name is also unreasonable. Also, because in the *Vigrahavyāvartanī*, when refuting that a valid cognition is established by itself, it is also refuted that a valid cognition is established by another, therefore it would follow that the object of valid cognition in name does not exist at all. Also, because in the *Prasannapadā*, the sūtra that the mind to be experienced cannot be found as a knower without self-awareness is cited, therefore it would lead to the mind to be experienced itself in name

because it would be a fallacy of being non-existent. If, in the Lankavatara Sutra, it says: 'Just as a sword cannot cut its own blade, a fingertip cannot touch itself, so is the self-awareness mind.' Having said that, if self-awareness exists in name, then in name, the sword's blade would cut itself, if you think like that, then in the case of examining with reason, there are many places where the examination of examples needs to be limited. Otherwise, there would be a sky lotus in name. Arya Deva said: 'The consciousness that possesses excellent meaning is also not desired by ordinary people, because it is separate from the nature of one and many, like a sky lotus.' Having said that, because one and many exist in name. In the root commentary of the Entering the Middle Way it says: 'The proof of the establishment of the dependent truth.' If self-awareness is established, one will be asked what the proof of self-awareness is. If memory is established, if a true memory is established, then the proof and the proven are the same. If a nominal memory is established, then the pervasion is uncertain, because memory also arises from the experience of the object.' Having said that, it is not completely said that self-awareness does not exist even in name. Otherwise, in the explanation it says: 'What is experienced by experience, memory will not not experience. What is cut off by experience, memory will not not cut off.' Having said that, therefore it is said that memory exists as self-memory. If that is the case, then is experience self-cut off or not self-cut off? If it is cut off, it contradicts the non-existence of self-awareness. If it is not cut off, it directly contradicts the meaning of the explanation. If you want to establish it with its own characteristics, you must become a Svatantrika, and if it is the opposite of this, you must not admit Svatantrika, saying that is unreasonable. In general, in the case of reasoning that prevents the arising of the four extremes, the difference between Prasangika and Svatantrika. Appears, and at that time, Master Legden established that the internal volition does not arise from the self, so he made Svatantrika, therefore that reason, is it establishing that the subject, the internal volition, is established by its own characteristics? Or is it establishing that the dharma, not arising from the self, is established by its own characteristics? Or is it establishing that the combination of the two is established by its own characteristics? If according to the first case, it is very unreasonable, because that is the occasion for establishing that it does not arise from its own characteristics. If at that time, just because of admitting the subject, it can be pushed to admit that it is established by its own characteristics, because
