Since it is not established by its own nature, the Svātantrika is not reasonable. Like a sprout, there are three kinds of grasping: grasping as existent by its own nature, grasping as non-existent, and grasping without any distinction between the two. Those who have generated the view have all three in their mindstream, but those who have not found the view only have the first and last two. If you understand these differences well, then all that is grasped by conceptual thought as "this is it" will not be blocked by reason. Before the view arises in the mindstream, are all the practices such as cultivating the mind of enlightenment considered to be grasping at truth or grasping at characteristics? Thinking that the view has arisen in the mindstream, the wrong views that have no regard for all aspects of behavior will be well refuted. Therefore, in order to prove what is to be proven by the sign of what is known to others, it is not enough for the other party to merely accept it. Both the subject and the predicate, as well as the sign, etc., must be established by valid cognition when measured from one's own side, and he himself must definitely accept it or need someone to accept it. Without these, if one is confused about the object of attachment, then it will not be able to generate the view that realizes suchness. These are all written. Furthermore, in the commentary on the *Entering the Middle Way*, it says: Truly established, ultimately established, and truly existent are the common objects of negation for both the Prāsaṅgika and Svātantrika schools. Established by its own characteristic, established by its own nature, and established by its own essence are the uncommon objects of negation for the Prāsaṅgika school, and are not the objects of negation for the Svātantrika school. This is written. Secondly, the ultimate truth established by convention, when searching for the meaning expressed by names, the fact that it cannot be found as an uncommon dharma, etc., has already been refuted in the previous section on definitions. If the contradiction in acceptance is shown again, if it is done when searching with conventional valid cognition and it cannot be found, then the meaning established merely by naming will not be harmed by rational valid cognition, and other valid cognitions will not harm it either, because it is established by valid cognition. This contradicts what is written in the *Distinguishing the Provisional and Definitive Meanings*. Furthermore, in the *Distinguishing the Provisional and Definitive Meanings*, it says that the word "merely" cuts off what is not established by the power of convention, but it does not cut off what is established by conventional valid cognition, which also contradicts this. This is like the term for a person, such as "This is Devadatta," and the term for a thing, such as "This is an eye."

Therefore, it follows that there is another establisher for the meanings of terms established by the power of terms. Because they are established by the power of being established by the valid cognition of terminological conventions. Because terms are only considered to be names. Therefore, since it is believed that the meaning expressed by terms is established by valid cognition, who would believe this statement that there is no establisher other than what is expressed by name? If those expressed meanings are meanings that cannot be found when searched for with the reasoning that distinguishes ultimate truth, then, since the Svātantrikas also accept that they cannot be found when searched for with the reasoning that distinguishes ultimate truth, how can it become a unique characteristic of the Prāsaṅgikas? In the world, when searching for the meaning of the term "a sprout arises from a seed," not finding it means not finding it when examining the four extremes. Moreover, it is contradictory to have the valid cognition of reasoning harm the arising of a sprout from a seed. Because after examining in that way, the valid cognition that does not find the arising of a sprout from a seed is the valid cognition of reasoning. To say that not finding the arising of a sprout from a seed when examining the four extremes, and not finding a person when searching with five or seven types of reasoning, are the meanings of not finding when searching for the expressed meaning, seems to be doing something without recognizing the direction, even though one wants to establish a unique characteristic of the Prāsaṅgikas. Because in the commentary *Clear Words*, when examining the compounded phenomena within the subject with reasoning and thereby negating arising, etc., it is also admitted that the subject is established as appearing commonly. And at that time, the *Legs ldan 'byed* himself admitted that finding my object with just an inverted basis-subject would be impaired. Because the teacher Candrakīrti pointed out the internal contradiction between these two, therefore the *Legs ldan 'byed* admitted that when negating the arising, etc., of the compounded phenomena within the subject, it cannot be found. As it is said in the *Clear Words*: "If someone asks, 'Just as here, one grasps only the general characteristic of the dharma and the subject, will one also grasp only the general characteristic of the subject, abandoning the particularities?' The answer is: It is not like that. Because when someone considers the dharma to be established here as the negation of arising, at that very time, finding my object with just an inverted basis-subject will be impaired, and this is what he himself has admitted." Finished.
