Although there is nothing else, if all the limbs of skillful means are complete, and whether or not one has become accustomed to it for a long time, there will be a difference in the abandonment of the Great Vehicle and the Small Vehicle. In the second case, merely acknowledging the meaning of external objects is similar to the skillful distinction, but the way of acknowledging is different. The skillful distinction believes that it is established by its own characteristics, while this (referring to the view here) believes that it is established merely by the establishment of the name "meaning of external objects." In conventional terms, it does not even acknowledge the Alaya consciousness, because the Entering the Middle Way states, "Even without the Alaya consciousness as the basis of cause and effect, the result can be produced after a long time after the karma has ceased." The key to acknowledging external objects also lies in not establishing the Alaya consciousness. If it is acknowledged, it must be thought of as stated in the Discrimination of the Middle and the Extremes: "Meaning and sentient beings and self-consciousness, those who appear as aspects of consciousness, say that those sentient beings have no meaning, and because there is no meaning, there is no consciousness." Regarding the reason for not acknowledging self-awareness in conventional terms, the root and commentary of the Entering the Middle Way also refuted the establishment of self-awareness by the marks of others' memories, and in one's own school, even without self-awareness, the reason for the arising of memory is explained. Therefore, not acknowledging self-awareness in conventional terms also ultimately leads to preventing establishment by one's own characteristics in conventional terms. Regarding experience, it is not clearly stated whether the distinction between one's own and others' experiences is clearly distinguished, but the intention is not to distinguish. Because it is not acknowledged that a lamp illuminates itself, but it is acknowledged that it illuminates, it is like not clearly stating whether the illumination of oneself and others is distinguished. In the third case, if the meaning of the scriptures is explained in this way, one must acknowledge the Svātantrika, and if it is explained in that way, it is not permissible to acknowledge it, so it is necessary to clearly understand this reason. According to one's own school, if, as stated in the Commentary, it is believed to be established by its own characteristics, then it must be Svātantrika, just like the realists of one's own school and the skillful ones, etc. In conventional terms, if one does not acknowledge phenomena established by their own characteristics, then one must undoubtedly not acknowledge Svātantrika, so this also ultimately leads to preventing from the subtle object of negation. In the Clear Words, as a reason why it is not appropriate to be Svātantrika, a verse is quoted from the Refutation of Disputes: "If I have some promises..."

. The meaning of the first two verses is that whichever side one is biased towards when entering (a debate), one will change towards that side. And the meaning of "I have no vows, I am the only faultless one" is also that because I do not have this bias, it is impossible to become a fault. Because this is without vows and bias, as it says in the commentary on the Introduction to the Middle Way, it is the meaning of not having a commitment established by self-character or self-nature. Therefore, in the Lamp of Wisdom, when refuting the faults of others, it says, "Either freely, or by way of refutation." Here, the translation of "freely" and "self-continuum" have the same meaning, that is, without relying on the commitment of the external debater, but from the perspective of the way things abide established by valid cognition, freely determining that the two are phenomena, and the way of the reason, after determining the way of establishment, generating the subsequent inference that realizes what is to be established, this is the meaning of self-continuum. That is, for the opponent debater who believes that all things exist by their own nature, before the establishment of what is to be established is completed, without distinguishing whether it exists by its own nature or not, the way of establishing what is to be measured by valid cognition is like this. Because it cannot be determined, although one wants the reason and what is to be established, one does not want the self-continuum's reason and what is to be established. Relying on the reason of dependent arising and the example of an image, to establish that a sprout does not have a nature established by its own nature, or to establish a subsequent inference that is known to others. One's own self does not admit that a sprout is dependently arising and arises dependently, and that there is no pervasion of self-nature, because of this reason, it is said that both are not established and are known to others, not as before, because valid cognition has not freely established the external debater, so the meaning is that valid cognition is not established for both oneself and others. Although the sprout and its dependent arising, etc., are established by the innate valid cognition of convention, they also exist in the continuum of the debater and the opponent debater, but it and the valid cognition that measures existence by its own nature are mixed in the face of the opponent debater, and cannot be distinguished until the view has arisen. Even if the previous debater distinguishes it, he cannot show it during that time. Although for the Consequentialists, without relying on commitments between each other, it is possible to show the way of establishment by valid cognition, it is because it is a valid cognition established by the power of nominal designation, so it is not the thing itself.
