cannot be prevented. If the object of measurement is established by that alone, it will become cumbersome. If someone says, "Then, for you, sound itself is the object of measurement, therefore it would be a permanent thing." What is the answer? Because the object of measurement is pervaded by permanent things. If someone says, "Because pervasion is not established by valid cognition, and there is no commitment, therefore there is no pervasion." Here too, it is the same, because the object of measurement is pervaded by ultimate things, therefore pervasion is not established by valid cognition, and there is no commitment. So it is said. From the mouth of the virtuous friend Tsang Nagpa, in this way, blocking the extremes examined by others, and the mind that ascertains the body of knowledge and the meaning taught by the Able One is a reliable valid cognition in all respects, that is, direct perception is understanding from the nature of the thing itself through its own appearance, and inference is understanding the hidden from seeing the pervaded, and the valid cognition of scripture is determining the meaning from trusting the words of others. Thus, these three objects of reasoning appear from the master's treatises in the manner of entering, the valid cognition of taking the basis of investigation, and the unestablished that is the same as what is to be proven, and the refutation based on contradictory relations. These are also, in turn, the basis of both and the reversal of what is not desired, and the agent of preventing the desires of others, so it is like the reasoning of the body, armor, and weapons. The latter reasoning is also, from examining its own characteristics and preventing, and from examining the differences with others and preventing, and from refuting through the sign of consequence, and from refuting through the sign of self-nature. These are also, as appropriate, commitment and the reasoning of things, two actions. Establishment and prevention, two actions. Directly examining and preventing the extremes of existence, two ways of preventing. Preventing from self-contradiction, and preventing from the general contradiction of the pervader, two actions, thus, there are three objects of reasoning, four ways of entering, and eight extremes of action. Therefore, I, through the words of the teacher and the master, and the lamps of reasoning, etc., call the body of knowledge Madhyamaka, and see it as having the three perfections as spoken of, therefore I have faith in the Dharma and the teacher, compassion for beings, and for the debater.

Having obtained fearless confidence, like a victory banner jewel, one particularly boasts in the assembly of speculations with the reasoning by which one sees oneself, and proclaims through the door of the teachings. As it is said, the fourth way of entering, the signs of Svātantrika, seem to be considered as the four: being separate from one and many, the diamond sliver, existence and non-existence, arising and ceasing, and the reason of dependent origination. Therefore, when analyzing the ultimate truth, it also seems to approve of Svātantrika. From the mouth of the Great Peacock, it is said that the ancients say that the Madhyamikas do not accept anything such as the Madhyamika view, what is to be refuted, what refutes, what is to be established, and what establishes. This is very unreasonable, because the meaning of conventional Madhyamika is dependent arising, so there must be a Madhyamika to be accepted, because dependent arising itself must be accepted as appearing but without inherent existence, or that cause and effect itself is neither one nor other. If one thinks, then is it not said that the wise also do not abide in the middle? Although it is so in the ultimate truth, in the conventional, if there is no Madhyamika view, then with what view are teachers such as Nāgārjuna established as Madhyamikas? If it is said that those do not establish their own side and only refute all other sides, then that is a sophistical debater, which is severely condemned in the scriptures. Furthermore, since the Madhyamika speech is applied to the objects of the two truths, the Madhyamika view must also be accepted, such as, in the ultimate truth, all dharmas are free from elaboration. And, in the conventional, all dharmas are like illusions. Since the meaning of the words is established and undeniable by combining words in this way, and one wants to establish the teachings, how can there be no commitment? After that, the Madhyamikas accept both the commitment of refutation and establishment in the conventional, but in the face of wisdom that has been examined and analyzed, there is no commitment of refutation and establishment in the ultimate truth. There is not even a combination of words, as it is said: What is to be said ceases, because the object of the mind ceases. Because it is said so. There is also a valid cognition that refutes and establishes in the conventional, because if there is no valid cognition at all, then it is impossible for an enlightened person to want to refute others, because if others are true, they cannot be refuted, and if they are false, if they do not know they are false, they cannot dispel others' wrong conceptions. If they know it is false, then they will treat falsehood as falsehood.
