If it is thought that the statement 'because there is no thesis, no reason should be established' is because no ultimate truth exists within the realm of conventional truth, and therefore it does not rely on any dharma, so it is said that no thesis and reason should be established for it. Or, even if it exists, it does not abide in dharmas such as 'being,' so it is said that no thesis and reason should be established. According to the first view, even if a self-nature reason is not established for the subject of debate, it is like establishing a reason to refute permanent entities. If some knowable things are taken as a basis and a reason is established to refute them, then when the ultimate truth is refuted, its various divisions (the four extremes) will also be refuted because of the establishment of self-nature, so the consequence will become meaningless. According to the second view, even if the ultimate truth exists within the realm of conventional truth, it is separated from all extremes such as things and non-things, so no thesis is established for anything, and therefore it is thought that no reason should be established. Then, since it is separated from one and many, and from births such as the four births, it will not be possible to refute the true thing, because even if the ultimate truth exists, it will not be admitted as one or many, or as anything such as things being existent or non-existent. Furthermore, is a consequence established for someone who asserts things, or for someone who does not assert them? According to the latter, a consequence will also be established for oneself. According to the former, just as someone who asserts things establishes the existence of the ultimate truth, its non-existence will also become a thesis, because there is no difference in intention. If it is thought that one wants to refute existence, but does not want to establish non-existence, then it can also be said that one wants to refute non-existence, but does not want to establish existence. If it is thought that refuting the non-existence of the ultimate truth is itself establishing existence, then it can also be said that refuting existence is itself establishing non-existence. Therefore, it is unreasonable to have no thesis. To refute the views of others, one must also refute with self-nature, and one cannot refute merely with consequences. Therefore, it is also unreasonable to merely verbally acknowledge reasons such as those related to various dharmas. Is the reason that has been acknowledged certain because it can refute the object to be refuted, or does it merely act as an obstacle because it shows that the object to be refuted does not exist in the knowable? According to the first view, that is unreasonable, otherwise, non-Buddhists would become useless even in the conventional truth because they admit that all things are permanent, because permanence and the ability to perform a function are contradictory.

Therefore, saying the word "permanent" does not contradict the meaning of conventional truth, because the word and meaning are related, so the meaning of permanence cannot be established. If it is established, it becomes self-established. Even if the meaning of conventional truth is negated, how can the words of refutation eliminate the opponent's wrong views? However, if words related to various forms create obstacles for those who believe in partless consciousness, it is like showing that one admits one's mother is a Rakshasi, but cannot give birth to children. Things have the ability, and it can be measured, which is irreversible. Similarly, even if saying related to various forms shows that partless does not exist, the doubt about existence will not be eliminated, because not accepting any refutation, how can it exert influence? Here it is said: Non-existence also comes from the cause. If it exists, then it is not without commitment. It is not a harm, nor an obstacle. It is merely words, which can neither negate nor establish. For mind and so on, truth and emptiness, if there is no common ground for argument, then in arguing about permanence and impermanence, there will also be no common ground in words. Just like appearing in the knowledge of memory, it only appears when experiencing the thing itself. If it is not like this, how do the debater, the person arguing, appear? If names do not have self-nature, then how can we speak of the objects of conventional measurement? Even saying that conventional truth is false, it can be established that truth and so on are negated from the cause. If you do not want cause and inference, then please say what is the consciousness of negation? If it is mental speculation, then there is a need for reasons. What is the result of elimination? If you think it is wrong view, then truth and reality are established. The opponent's position will grow. For places where there is no entry of valid cognition, how can one enter the realm of having objects of investigation? Even if there is doubt about existence or non-existence, if nothing is said, if one wants reality, then one is far from the Middle Way. Thus it is said. Therefore, when negating things of ultimate truth, one should only rely on the self-nature cause that is established by valid cognition with the characteristic of the subject and pervasion to negate. The non-affirming negation causes such as being apart from one and apart from many that are established are the unobserved pervasion. The establishing causes such as dependent origination that are established are the pervasion of self-nature contradiction. Like this, negating reality from the self-nature cause, merely with too much extreme, one cannot eliminate the elaboration of reality.
