To establish as the subject a phenomenon that is devoid of particular examination. As it is said by the master Yeshe Nyingpo: "In the knowledge of both opponents." And so on. The great Khenpo Zhiwa Tsho also said: "By the distinctions created by the scriptures." And so on, and in its commentary as well: "If it were not so, then all those who wish to establish fire and impermanence, etc., by means of smoke and existence, etc., would not become the basis for valid cognition, because the properties of the subject to be proven, such as the qualities of space, are not established." Thus it is explained. Furthermore, if there is no common establishment of the subject, such as form, then there is no common establishment even in the acceptance of contradiction itself. If the other party also accepts the contradiction, then is it not the case that the one who refutes, having understood that they are speaking in such a contradictory way, expresses a consequence? If it is said that it is established by being undeniable, then form, etc., is also established by engaging in coming and going as one sees it. If there is absolutely no common appearance, then the explanation of the explainer to the listener is also meaningless, because the listener never understands the explainer's own thought. Therefore, in conventional terms, it is not the case that one does not have one's own thesis, and the reason for establishing it is indeed established for oneself. If it is not established for oneself, then even if another accepts it with distorted knowledge, one's own desire is not accomplished, because it is not related to the meaning. Just as one says to another that their desire is not so, why does one not desire dependent arising and the contradiction of self-nature? Just as there is an accepted contradiction, why is there no knowable contradiction? If you say that we do not desire knowledge itself, then we also do not desire acceptance itself. Therefore, what the master said about not having a thesis is only that, and it is not eliminating the thesis of refutation in conventional terms. Therefore, one cannot accomplish what is needed by mere consequences. Therefore, in order to accomplish one's own desire, it is the Svātantrika, and it is also the case that after averting the consequences that refute others, one throws the Svātantrika. Refuting the desire of others is the Prāsaṅgika, and it is said that one also refutes with the Svātantrika by showing the other's system that does not agree with the desire of others. The great translator of the past, Khulotsawa Döndepal, asserted that saying that the Madhyamikas do not have their own thesis is also based on ultimate truth.

Therefore, they do not accept any commitments such as non-existence or non-arising, but it is not the case that they have no commitments of their own volition at all. Because when analyzing the truth of conventions, there are commitments of their own volition. Similarly, they do not accept the svatantrika-hetu (self-sufficient reason) that establishes the ultimate truth, but they do accept the svatantrika-hetu when analyzing the truth of conventions. The reason for this is as follows: The ultimate truth is free from the four extremes of existence and non-existence, etc., so the pervasion of its object of measurement is excluded. Since there is no object of measurement and no object of knowledge, it is not established as an object of measurement that is manifest or hidden. Therefore, neither direct perception nor inference can be used as a means of measuring it. Similarly, since it is free from the four extremes, there is no commitment to existence or non-existence, etc., in any way. Therefore, the svatantrika-hetu that establishes the ultimate truth is not valid. The mind that grasps existence, non-existence, etc., and all objects of measurement and mental objects of knowledge are only the conventional truth, so the svatantrika-hetu only applies to that. Although there is nothing to commit to in the ultimate truth, those who speak of entities make commitments, so refuting them is not done with the svatantrika-hetu, but by relying on their own commitments and refuting them with contradictory consequences. For example, to those who say there are no aspects, since appearances are not truly existent, they are not related to consciousness, so it is said that appearances are necessarily unreasonable, thereby refuting the certainty of appearances. The certainty of appearances is related to consciousness, so it is said that it is not fabricated, thereby refuting fabrication. To those who say there are aspects, the reason of being related to many aspects refutes partless consciousness, and the reason of partless consciousness refutes being related to many aspects. To the schools, the reason of composing grossness refutes partless particles, and the reason of partlessness refutes composing grossness. To the tirthikas (non-Buddhists), the reason of permanence refutes functionality, and the reason of functionality refutes permanence. The pervasion of the subject on the basis of what the opponent has committed to is only a worldly fame, so it is too extreme, and therefore refutes the commitment. Thus it was said. The Lord of Reasoning, Chapa, said that the Madhyamikas, from the ultimate truth,
