It is established by valid cognition. In short, among the four types of valid cognition known in the world, only appearance is established. The second is the arguments of the Middle Way, such as being separate from one and many, which are no different from what is said when establishing the ultimate truth. The third is in the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness": "Actions are like a city of gandharvas, illusions, mirages, hairnets, bubbles, clouds, and transformations, dreams, and fire wheels." And so on, in the Middle Way doctrines, even in relation to the world, the eight examples of illusions, which are terms for falsehood, and the five examples such as the congealing of bubbles, are used to show that these are seen by worldly people and have already been established as collections of emptiness. Secondly, there are three ways to establish the ultimate truth: identifying what is to be established, explaining the divisions of what establishes it, and determining the meaning of each of them individually. The first is that the ultimate is that which is free from the elaborations of the four extremes, as it is said in the Essence of Wisdom Sutra: 'Not existent, not non-existent, not both existent and non-existent, nor the nature of both, therefore, free from the four extremes, the reality of the Madhyamika wise ones.' Thus it is said. If the ultimate truth is not beyond the object of negation and affirmation, and knowledge and expression, why should it be established? The nature of the ultimate truth is to be known by the self-aware wisdom of each of the noble ones in meditative equipoise, and cannot be the object of negation and affirmation, and knowledge and expression. As it is said in the Noble Sutra Entering the Two Truths: 'Son of the gods, if the ultimate truth becomes the nature of the object of body, speech, and mind, then it cannot be counted as the ultimate truth, but only as the conventional truth. However, son of the gods, if the ultimate truth is beyond all terms, without distinction, unborn, unceasing, and separate from speaking, speech, knowing, and knowledge. Son of the gods, the ultimate truth is endowed with all perfections and transcends the limits of the object of the wisdom of all aspects, just like the ultimate truth.' What is said is not like that. All dharmas are false, they are deceiving dharmas.

So! Son of the gods, the ultimate truth cannot be taught. Why is that? Because the one who teaches, what is taught, and the Dharma to whom it is taught, all of these are unborn in the ultimate sense. Unborn dharmas cannot explain unborn dharmas. Thus it is said. However, in order to realize the nature of the ultimate truth, it can be shown through the door of conventional designation, in a conforming way, through language. And it can be made an object by conceptual mind. As it is said in the sutra: The Knower of the World, without hearing from others, teaches these two truths himself. And as it is said in the Root Wisdom: It is expressed for the purpose of designation. And so on, as the root text and commentary quoted earlier. And in the commentary to the Entrance to the Middle Way, it says: Just as a bodhisattva on the sixth ground realizes the meaning of dependent origination as unborn, I, Chandrakirti, cannot independently explain it, but I can explain it by following the treatises of the teacher Nagarjuna, because he has truly understood the meaning of the scriptures. Like that. Such an ultimate truth as it is in itself and that which conforms to it are not different in essence, but the ultimate truth as it is in itself, when one presumes to speak and listen to it, and the speaker expresses it through language, and the listener grasps it with the conceptual thought of hearing and thinking, then the actual object of language and thought is the ultimate truth that conforms to it. As it is said in the Ornament: Because it conforms to the meaning of the ultimate, this is called the meaning of the ultimate. Truly, it is liberation from all collections of elaboration. Thus it is said. Therefore, the ultimate truth, which is free from elaboration, is made elaborate by assertion and negation, and thus that which is free from elaboration will be realized. For example, sound, produced, and impermanent, in order to realize that these three are one in essence, for a while, in the mind of excluding others, different negations are separated, and in the end, it will be realized that they are one in essence. In short, presuming to have established the nature of freedom from elaboration in the mind of the noble one's equipoise, then in the mind of conceptual thought, the ultimate truth, free from the elaboration of the four extremes, is what is to be established. Second, explaining the divisions of the means of proof, from the perspective of what is to be refuted, the four reasonings that prevent the elaboration of the four extremes. Syllogism.
