All things are said to hold two natures in terms of how the mind with an object grasps the object, namely, what is real and what is not. However, it is not the case that two natures are held from the perspective of their own essence. As it says in the commentary to the *Entering the Middle Way*: "Therefore, in terms of the ultimate truth, it is the special object of the wisdom of those who see correctly, and by this, one finds one's own essence, but it is not established by its own nature. This is one essence. On the other hand, in terms of the conventional truth, it is the power of the false appearance seen by ordinary beings whose minds' eyes are completely covered by the obscuration of ignorance, and by this, one finds the existence of 'I'. Like the object seen by children, it is not established by its own essence in such a nature. Therefore, all things hold these two natures." Therefore, those who claim to be later Madhyamikas, if they say that the meaning of these treatises is the meaning found by reason and the meaning found by convention, that is completely wrong. Because reason is the subsequent cognition that relies on the great Madhyamika arguments such as freedom from one and many, and the correct view of this (reason) is mainly the equipoise of the noble ones. Reason is also included in it from the point of establishing its object. As the commentary quoted earlier says, "the special wisdom of those who see correctly," and similarly, in the commentary to "A mind that has abandoned stainless wisdom / Does not harm stainless wisdom," it says, "Even the consciousness of ordinary beings who are separated from uncontaminated wisdom does not harm the uncontaminated view, therefore the world does not harm such an object." These are also the ultimate truth realized by the Prasangikas, which is free from all elaboration in the view of the equipoise of the noble ones. When ordinary beings determine it, although what appears in the mind is not the ultimate truth, they mistakenly think it is the ultimate truth and make distinctions with characteristics and so on, which is completely not understanding its meaning. It is also very wrong to think that all false appearances are conventional valid cognition, because conventional valid cognition, as stated in the *Refutation of Disputes* and the *Clear Words*, is in the world...

If it must be any of the four kinds of valid cognition of reputation, and all false appearances are like that, then the consciousnesses of defective senses should also fall into that category. Furthermore, the two moons and the chief object examined by the Samkhyas, etc., would become existent in the conventional truth, because those objects of cognition are valid cognitions of convention. If you accept that, it contradicts the commentary on 'The Heretic Disturbed by Ignorance and Sleep.' It says, 'Therefore, whatever is examined by these, such as the three qualities, etc., is not even existent in the conventional truth.' Master Yeshe Nyingpo said in the 'Two Truths': 'How it appears, this alone, is conventional, the other is ultimate.' Thus he stated the basis. And: 'Reasoning that is not deceptive is ultimate, not conventional. Since it is not deceptive in that way, how it appears is itself true.' Thus he stated the definition. Its meaning is that when dividing into two truths, just as the conventional is made the object of cognition and truth is established in its presence, the ultimate must also be made the object of cognition and truth must be established in its presence. In that case, the ultimate of the object of cognition is the inferential wisdom that examines reality, so being non-deceptive in its presence is, for the time being, the ultimate truth in the context of dividing into two truths. Because the object of cognition possesses the meaning of 'ultimate' and the object possesses the meaning of 'truth.' Thinking this way, the commentary on the previous text says that certainty in the meaning of the power of reason does not deceive. Therefore, the realization generated by the sign with three aspects is both supreme and real, so it is ultimate. The meaning established by it is also ultimate, just as it is expressed by direct perception, etc. This is the ultimate truth of the nominal, and the non-nominal is the freedom from elaboration that transcends the object of mind with dualistic appearance. In the 'Two Truths' it says: 'The knower of existent and non-existent things, even the omniscient one does not see. What is the nature of that thing? Examine it with extremely subtle view.' And in the commentary, the sutra is made the source: 'So, what is the conventional truth? As many as there are worldly designations, letters, languages, and indications. What is the ultimate truth? For whom'
