Some, like Chapa, argue that if one only refutes the Sutra School, which has different meanings, and refutes the same point, then (the two truths) are the same in essence but different in aspect. As stated in the *Commentary on the Awakening Mind*: 'From the perspective of conventional truth, they are different, but it is not the object of (ultimate truth). Conventional truth is explained as emptiness, and emptiness itself is conventional truth, because it is certain that if one does not exist, the other does not arise, like conditioned phenomena and impermanence.' That is their view. However, this view is unreasonable, because if the essence is the same, one cannot avoid the first fault, which is refuting the same point, because the object is the same in essence, and the subject is the establisher and the enterer. Furthermore, does the meaning of the two truths being the same in essence refer to the mind of the noble one in meditative equipoise? Or, as stated in the *Lankavatara Sutra*: 'How conventionality appears, if analyzed by reason, nothing is found. That which is not found is ultimate truth, the nature of reality that has always existed.' Does it refer to the two truths that appear before the mind of ordinary beings and the wisdom of ultimate analysis? If it is the former, it is unreasonable, because before that wisdom, one has already departed from the elaboration of one and different, as it is said: 'Not different meaning, not one meaning, elaboration is pacified.' Because the characteristic of dependent origination has become manifest. If it is the latter, then the same essence is contradictory, because such two truths are: 'Conventional truth becomes the means, ultimate truth becomes the result of the means.' Since it is said to be the means and the result of the means, if the means and the result of the means are the same in essence, it would lead to the cause and effect being the same in essence. Taking conditioned phenomena and impermanence as examples only illustrates the necessity that if one does not exist, the other does not arise, not that they are the same in essence. Otherwise, if conditioned phenomena and impermanence appear as one before non-conceptual consciousness, then both would appear, and the two truths would have the same fault. Some later self-proclaimed Madhyamikas say: 'The two truths are the same in essence, which is established by reasoning, because if the basis is established, then the essence is established is pervasive. If the essence is established, then being the same or different in essence is pervasive, and the two truths being different in essence has been refuted by reasoning.' This negates the uncommon view of the Prasangika Madhyamika School. If that were the case, then all phenomena, such as the internal cause and effect like ignorance and action, and the external cause and effect like seed and sprout, would become subjects, essenc

It is also established because the basis is established. If you admit it, then it should be either one entity or different entities, because you admit it. If you admit that it is one entity, then all arising of effects from causes should become self-arising, because the entity of cause and effect is one. If the entity is different, then all arising of effects from causes should become other-arising, because the entity of cause and effect is different. Even if all followers gather, there is no answer. Furthermore, if the two truths are one entity, then from the example, the hair seen by the one with cataracts and the seeing of no hair by the one with pure vision should become one entity, because the two truths are one entity. The pervasion, please see the entry. From the aspect of characteristics, knowing or not knowing from others, peaceful or not peaceful, transcending or not transcending elaboration, having or not having conceptualization, etc., should become one entity, because the two truths are one entity. The pervasion is in the Root Wisdom: 'Knowing or not knowing from others, peaceful and, elaborations, not elaborated by elaborations, non-conceptual, not different. That is the characteristic of that.' Because it is necessary to admit that the opposite of this is the conventional truth, because the conventional truth manifested by Madhyamaka is an entity that is different from the ultimate truth. Thus it is said. Furthermore, worldly conventions and transcendence of them, and whether or not they can be expressed in words, and whether or not there is movement of the mind, and whether or not the expressed and the expresser are, and whether or not the knower and the known are one entity, etc., all the treatises on the occasion of explaining the two truths become harmful to this, because the scriptures are many, so they are not written. Third, according to the view of the glorious Sakya Pandita, the criticism of faults in one and different in the sutras is done from the point of view of the ultimate, therefore in the ultimate, it is liberated from both one and different, and in the conventional, like things and non-things, it is a difference that prohibits oneness, this is said to be reasonable, because in the ultimate, liberation from one and different, and in the presence of the noble equipoise, liberation from one and different have the same meaning, and as said before, if it is done from the point of view of means and what arises from means, then the consciousness that sees and grasps things in the conventional, for this, the consciousness that examines the reality does not find the thing itself, and it is established as the ultimate.
