If one searches for that so-called meaning, but cannot find it, this is the unique view of the Prasangika school. Therefore, all conventional establishments are merely nominal designations, and the meanings designated do not exist, they say. Regarding this, if one does not accept existence or non-existence from the ultimate point of view, this will be refuted later. But in conventional terms, for phenomena that can appear, one must separately distinguish between existence and non-existence, being and non-being, as previously explained. For phenomena that cannot appear, it is not necessarily the case that when one of two contradictory things is excluded, the other is completely established. Otherwise, it would follow that there is a meat-eater in this place in front of us. Because it is not the case that there is no meat-eater there. Like this, inferring by nature. If one does not see the reason of smoke, etc., it would follow that there is fire behind the mountain. Because it is not the case that there is no fire there. Like this, inferring by place. Tomorrow, Lhasbyin will come wearing blue clothes. Because it is not the case that he will not come. Like this, inferring by time. For these cases of inferring by existence or non-existence, please think carefully about how one should speak. Similarly, if one says: At the time of the sprout, there is a seed. Because it is not the case that there is no seed there. If one says this, how should one answer? If one accepts, then the cause will become permanent. If one does not accept, then the cause will become non-existent. As it is said in the "Entering the Middle Way": Because the sprout is not different from the seed, therefore when the sprout exists, the seed does not perish. Because it is not one and the same, therefore when the sprout exists, one should not say that the seed exists. Therefore, when searching for the meaning of a nominal designation, not finding it, does this mean not finding it in the ultimate sense? Or does it mean not finding it in the conventional sense? If it is the former, then at that time even the name that designates cannot be found, so saying that it is merely a nominal designation, and that the meaning designated does not exist, is contradictory. As it is said in the "Precious Garland": Because the object of form is only a name, the sky is also only a name. How can form that has not arisen exist? Therefore, even the name is only non-existent. If it is the latter, then in the conventional sense, the name that designates and the meaning to be designated should not be established in dependence on each other. Because in the conventional sense, the name that designates exists, but the meaning to be designated does not exist. If one accepts this, then the action and the agent should not be established in dependence on each other. Because one accepts this. The pervasion is established and accepted.

It is not possible, because the agent relies on the action, and the action also relies on the agent itself. Apart from relying on this, no cause for accomplishment is seen. As it is said. The attributer relies on the attributed, and the attributed relies on the attributer itself. Apart from relying on this, no cause for accomplishment is seen. Thus, Nagarjuna believes that all phenomena that are established interdependently can be applied in this way. Furthermore, the knowing mind and the object to be known are not established interdependently, because of the same previous assertion. It is not pervasive and cannot be asserted, because the Bodhicitta Commentary says: Knowledge understands the knowable, without the knowable there is no knowledge. If that is the case, why not accept that there is neither knowable nor knower? As it is said. The attributer understands the attributed, without the attributed there is no attributer. If that is the case, why not accept that there is neither attributed nor attributer? Thus, because it is considered the same for all actions and agents. The name given to the king of beasts, the lion, and the name given to the Brahmin's son, Lion, these two names have no difference between real name and imputed name, because there is no difference in whether the meaning attributed by these two names is a lion or not. The sprout that grows from the seed, is the meaning of the name 'the sprout grows from the seed' or not? If it is, then the sprout growing from the seed will not exist conventionally. If it is not, then it is not the meaning attributed by the concept 'the sprout grows from the seed', because the meanings attributed by the name and the concept are the same in every way. If you assert this, it contradicts the assertion that all phenomena are merely attributed by concepts. In short, to have a name in convention, but not to have the meaning attributed by the name, is to be outside the system of Nagarjuna and his son, because the father and son stated that all the conventions of action and agent, such as attributed and attributer, action and agent, object to be taken and taker, etc., are established interdependently, even though they do not exist inherently. As it is said, by the agent and the actions, the remaining things should also be known. In the commentary of the Clear Words, it says: 'By the wise,' this is the remainder of the sentence. The wise through action and agent, and
