It has been said before. Regarding the way of taking vows, according to the Mind-Only school, one must be free from the five certainties, therefore, it only speaks of the way of taking vows until enlightenment is attained. According to the Madhyamaka school, the time can be one day and one night, one month, one year, or even as long as one lives, or until enlightenment is attained, one should take as much as one is capable of, and learn as much as one can learn, as the previous lamas have said. Third, there are three things to be learned after taking vows: generally speaking, one should contemplate the distinctions of the activities of a Bodhisattva; regarding this, how to learn with the three trainings in morality, all actions do not go beyond the seal of the Great Vehicle. The first point has three aspects: determining what is desired and undesired; determining one's own and others' continuums; and distinguishing the activities based on these. The first aspect, what is desired is immediate happiness and long-term benefit, that is, the immediate and long-term of this life, and the benefit of higher realms and liberation in this life and the next; what is undesired is the opposite, that is, immediate suffering and long-term harm. The second aspect, self and others, refers to, in this context, what is included by one mind-generation continuum, and what is included by different continuums. The third aspect has three ways of distinguishing: distinguishing in terms of meaning, there are three types: happiness, benefit, and both; and three types: suffering, harm, and both; and two types: suffering but beneficial, and happiness but harmful, making a total of eight types; distinguishing in terms of continuum, there are three types: wanting for oneself, others, and both; and three types: not wanting for oneself, others, and both; and two types: others want but oneself does not want, and oneself wants but others do not want, making a total of eight types. The distinction of meaning and continuum intertwined includes four types: oneself suffers but benefits others, oneself is happy but harms others, benefits oneself but causes suffering to others, and harms oneself but brings happiness to others. Thus, there are a total of twenty types. The scope of a Bodhisattva's entering and withdrawing activities is limited to these. Second, regarding this, how to learn with the three trainings in morality has three points: when meaning and continuum are not intertwined, the activities of the three trainings in morality are generally explained; when meaning is intertwined but continuum is not intertwined, the special activities for lineage; when both are intertwined, the special activities for lineage and strength, and further special activities. The first point is, abandoning the three types of suffering, harm, and both that have no meaning for oneself, this is the training in moral discipline of individual liberation.

Yes, that also requires much more diligent learning than the previously explained precepts of aspiration. Ensuring one's own harmless happiness and benefit in three ways is the discipline of accumulating virtue. If one lapses from the commitment to accumulate the collections of merit of the perfections, as previously taught, one should rectify it and learn even more diligently. Ensuring the harmless happiness and benefit of others in three ways, and abandoning suffering and harm in three ways, are the three disciplines of benefiting sentient beings. If one lapses from the commitment to actions, as previously taught, one should rectify it and learn even more diligently. Secondly, in one continuum, suffering can be beneficial and happiness can be harmful when the meaning is contradictory. These should be distinguished by category. For example, medicine and asceticism, if they are beneficial to oneself or others in the long run, should be done even if they cause immediate suffering. Conversely, things like perverse desires, even if they are immediately pleasurable, should not be done if they are harmful in the long run. When the continuum contradicts a single meaning, one should distinguish between what others want but oneself does not, and what oneself wants but others do not. For example, paths and food, if others want them, one should do them even if one does not want them oneself. If others do not want them, one should not do them even if one wants them oneself. Thirdly, when both contradict, there are two types: those where the main purpose of the action is the same and those where it is different. The same are: suffering oneself but benefiting others, and being happy oneself but harming others. The first should be done and the second should not be done, based on the distinctions of both meaning and continuum. The different are: benefiting oneself but causing suffering to others, and harming oneself but bringing happiness to others. Since bodhisattvas primarily engage in these two with faith, the distinctions of continuum should be further distinguished by the category of meaning. The first should be done and the second should not be done. Some bodhisattvas prioritize the continuum, and therefore, after further distinguishing the distinctions of meaning by the continuum, they do the second and do not do the first. Therefore, there are four further distinctions. Similarly, in the previous two distinctions of meaning, if the benefit or harm causes greater happiness or suffering, there are two that should be further distinguished by strength. In the two distinctions of continuum, if one's own desire or lack of desire is greater than that of others, there are two that should be further distinguished by strength. In the two distinctions of both meaning and continuum, the benefit or harm to others
