Although the nature of nirvana, which is free from all extremes of elaboration, has been ascertained through hearing and thinking, and a definite understanding has arisen, it will not manifest unless it is experienced through meditation. Therefore, in order to manifest it, the means of the Middle Way will be explained. This has three aspects: refuting the paths examined by others, identifying one's own path, and explaining its practice in detail. The first part has three aspects: refuting wrong paths, refuting different paths, and refuting incomplete paths. First, the so-called path is that which abandons the cause of samsara—all delusions—and leads to the state of nirvana. Therefore, the knowledge of the twenty-five realities imagined by non-Buddhists, as well as bathing in rivers, the empowerment of Ishvara, the asceticism of dogs and cows, serving the five fires, the asceticism of living naked, and contemplating Ishvara and other things as suffering, are not the path to liberation, because they do not contradict the cause of samsara, and like the view of self, they are induced by wrong views. The scriptures also say, "Wrong views do not lead to nirvana, thus have the Tathagatas spoken." Second, the realists of our own school believe that in their own tenets, which they have individually distinguished with their own intelligence, there exists the complete path that enables one to attain the three bodhis. This is just as the sutras say, that the nature of phenomena does not deviate from its own essence, but appears differently in all things. If it is thought of as a method for training the mind in the view of the Middle Way, then everything is not contradictory to the path, because the perfect Buddha taught in accordance with the minds of those to be tamed. If it is thought of as the definitive meaning, then it is not reasonable, because there is no meditation on the meaning of establishing the near-taking aggregates as truly unborn, therefore one will not realize the selflessness of persons. If one does not realize that, one will not be able to abandon the root of samsara. From the tenets of the two Hinayana schools, although the Mahayana mind generation and so on of one's own school are explained, the bodhisattva mind generation that can accomplish perfect Buddhahood, as well as the practice of generosity and other perfections, and the special dedication, are not explained, therefore perfect Buddhahood cannot be accomplished even from the aspect of practice.

It is not possible, as Nagarjuna said: From the Hearer Vehicle, the arising of Bodhicitta, and the practice of dedication are not taught, how can it become the Great Vehicle? As it is said. If the Bodhisattva conduct spoken of in the Mind-Only treatises is combined with the view of Madhyamaka and practiced, then the great beings consider that it is possible to achieve complete enlightenment. As Sakya Pandita said: The view is mostly the Madhyamaka principle, following the tradition of the noble Nagarjuna, the conduct is the treatises spoken of by the Mind-Only, the aspiration cherished by Asanga. These two, view and conduct, are not mistaken, and are not mixed with each other, practicing as it is said, is the teaching of complete enlightenment. As it is said. This also shows that without the view of Madhyamaka, it is not possible to achieve the three Bodhis, as previously stated. Third, in this snowy region, those who claim to be Mahayana, with the so-called "White Dharma Only," thinking that by meditating only on emptiness, they can achieve omniscience, to this, such as the wise Kamalashila, and the glorious Sakya Pandita, etc., observing in an undistorted way, consider that because they do not have the part of skillful means, they cannot achieve complete enlightenment. It has already been refuted through many scriptural and logical arguments, so I will not make efforts here. In addition, there are those who view the Dharmadhatu as truly established, similar to the Mind-Only, and those who cling to the negation of emptiness, considering it the main view, and those who desire Mahamudra that does not arise from empowerment and the two stages, etc., although there are many, but previously in the chapter on "Fundamental Madhyamaka" it has already been analyzed, and some have also been said to be refuted in the supplement to the Three Vows. Second, determining one's own path, as the Lord Maitreya said in the Ornament of Clear Realization: The three wisdoms determined by hearing and thinking, practiced through the four applications, from which arises the nature of the path summarized by the result Dharmakaya and the three bodies. And in the Ornament of the Sutras it says: Faith in lineage and Dharma, likewise, the arising of the mind, and the practice of giving, etc., entering into the faultless, completely maturing all sentient beings, purifying the fields, not abiding in Nirvana, and supreme enlightenment and teaching. Thus, the ten natures of the path and result are taught.
