The sect revered by the Bahusrutiya (Tod pa rang de mang pos bkur ba'i sde pa), they refute with reason that the self exists apart from the aggregates, but from the perspective of substantial existence, the aggregates themselves are the object of the view of self. Some of them consider all five aggregates to be the self, as it is said in the sutra: "The Blessed One said, 'Any sramana or brahmana who correctly contemplates 'there is a self,' they only correctly contemplate these five aggregates of clinging.'" Therefore, they believe that this sutra was spoken to eliminate the view of self and what belongs to self that arises from clinging to the aggregates. Others consider only the mind to be the self, as it is said in the sutra: "Oneself is one's own protector, who else could be the protector? By subduing oneself well, the wise will attain high status." They believe that this sutra indicates that the mind is the self, because there is no self independent of the aggregates, and other sutras also say to subdue the mind, as it is said in the sutra: "Subduing the mind is excellent, subduing the mind brings happiness." Tsongkhapa here says that Acharya Gunamati believes that consciousness is the basis for the self, and the Mind-Only school believes that the alaya-vijnana is the basis for the self, therefore they also believe that the self and the aggregates are one. This statement is unexamined, because they believe that the aggregates are the basis of imputation for the self, not the basis of the self. If the aggregates are the object of the innate self-grasping, then the self must be admitted, this is a challenge from the Prasangikas, but they themselves do not believe that the self and the aggregates are one, because from the Kashmir Sarvastivadins onwards, no one believes that the self and the aggregates are one. Therefore, in order to refute the Bahusrutiya's view that the self and the aggregates are one, Acharya Chandrakirti presented logical harm and scriptural unreasonableness. First, regarding the logical aspect, there are seven logical arguments, the first being: it would lead to the fault of one person having multiple selves, because the five aggregates are multiple. Even if only the mind is considered to be the self, there would be multiple selves due to eye consciousness, etc., or the difference between prior and subsequent moments. If this is admitted, then it would contradict the sutra that says, "When a being is born into the world, only one being is born," because that would mean admitting multiple selves. Second,

That is, the self becomes substantial, because the aggregates are considered substantial. If admitted, then it contradicts the scriptures, which say, "Monks, these five are only names, only terms, only designations, namely past time, future time, space, nirvana, and the person." Third, it is asserted that the view of the aggregates of destruction will not be inverted, because like the consciousness of blue, yellow, etc., it is an object of substance. If admitted, then it will not be abandoned, or it will only be abandoned by abandoning the desire and attachment that takes it as its object. Fourth, at the time of nirvana without remainder, the self is cut off, because there the continuum of the aggregates is cut off. If admitted, then the clinging to the extreme of annihilation will become a view of clinging to extremes. Fifth, before nirvana, the self arises and ceases momentarily, because there the aggregates arise and cease momentarily. If admitted, then the statement "How did this body of mine come into being?" and the statement "At that time I was the king, I was the lotus" will not be spoken, because at that time I also perish like the body, and another will arise here. Furthermore, when karma is created, there is no one who experiences the result, and when the result is experienced, there is no one who created the karma, because the self arises and ceases momentarily, so it is admitted that these two are different. If there is no fault in enjoying the fruit of what was done in the previous moment in the later moment, then the karma created will be wasted, and one will encounter karma that was not created, because it is others who accumulate and others who enjoy. If it is said that belonging to one continuum has no fault, that also cannot be said, because being other by its own characteristics, it is not reasonable to be in one continuum. Sixth, asserting that the world has an end and is without end, both and neither, that is, the four sentences, and the four sentences such as the world is permanent, and the four sentences such as whether the Tathagata exists or does not exist after death, it is not reasonable to establish them as unexplained things. If the self and the aggregates are one, then at this time the word "world" must grasp the aggregates, therefore the world has an end and is impermanent, and the Tathagata after death.
