Like illusory beings and false, selfless things like reflections, how can beauty and ugliness arise? Because the appearance of beauty and ugliness as a basis is not real. Secondly, if there are some beautiful things like silver vases, do they exist independently of ugliness or dependently on it? If it is the first case, then it will be more beautiful than a gold vase; if it is the second case, then it is not reasonable to consider it beautiful, because it is based on the ugliness of things like copper vases that it can be called beautiful, and the ugliness of the copper vase as the object of dependence is not itself independent of the beauty of the silver vase. Similarly, if there are some ugly things like copper vases, do they exist independently of beauty or dependently on it? If it is the first case, then it will be uglier than a clay vase; if it is the second case, then it is not reasonable to consider it ugly, because it is based on the beauty of things like silver vases that it can be called ugly, and the beauty of things like silver vases as the object of dependence is not itself established independently of the ugliness of the copper vase. Secondly, if the object of beauty does not exist in this way, then how can its result, attachment, naturally exist? If the object of ugliness does not exist, then how can the result, hatred, naturally exist? Just as it is said, "If its seed is false, how can its fruit be true?" Because a false cause cannot produce a true result. Secondly, refuting ignorance is divided into two parts: refuting the cause of inversion, and the result of refuting the inversion. The first part is divided into two parts: refuting the difference between inversion and non-inversion, and refuting the person who is attached to these inversions. The first part is divided into two parts: the object is the same in that it is not established in any way, and that mere attachment is not established. The first part is divided into two parts: attachment to permanence, etc., is not established as inversion, and attachment to impermanence, etc., is not established as non-inversion. The first case is: in general, if the five aggregates of impermanence, suffering, impurity, and selflessness are attached to permanence, happiness, purity, and self, it is defined as inversion, then, is it inversion that the five aggregates abide in impermanence, etc., and are attached to permanence, etc.? Or is it inversion that the five aggregates do not abide in permanence, etc., and are attached to permanence, etc.?

It is erroneous. If, as before, it is posited as erroneous because of clinging to the impermanent aggregates as permanent, then, how can the aggregates, as a phenomenon, clinging to them as permanent be erroneous? It should not be erroneous, because the aggregates are empty of inherent existence, so impermanence also does not exist. Similarly, if saying "suffering is happiness" and clinging to it in that way is erroneous, since there is no suffering in emptiness, how can clinging be erroneous? The remaining three (impurity, no-self, unpleasantness) should also be applied in the same way. The second case is, if, as in the later analysis, it is posited that clinging to the meaning of impermanence as permanent is erroneous because permanence does not exist in the object of knowledge, then, how can clinging to the aggregates, as a phenomenon, as impermanent not be erroneous? It should be erroneous, because the aggregates are empty of inherent existence, so no matter how one clings, impermanence does not exist. Similarly, if saying "suffering is happiness" and clinging to it in that way is erroneous, since there is no suffering in emptiness, how can clinging not be erroneous? And so on, the remaining three should also be applied in the same way. The second case is, in this way, although clinging to the erroneous as non-erroneous is refuted, the act of clinging itself is not refuted, so clinging exists. Because clinging exists, its proof, agent, and action also exist, if one thinks in this way, that is not correct. Because what clings to permanence and so on, what is the act of clinging, who is the clinger, self or mind, and all the objects to be clung to, such as form, are all generally refuted by examining conditions, so everything is pacified. Therefore, mere clinging does not exist, and because clinging does not exist, clinging to the inverted and non-inverted is also not established. Second, refuting the person who clings to these objects is divided into two: generally refuting the person who clings to the erroneous and non-erroneous, and specifically refuting the person who clings to the inverted. The first case is, the erroneous and non-erroneous exist inherently, because there exists a person who clings to them, if one thinks in this way, then, which person has the erroneous, and which person has the non-erroneous? The person who possesses both of these also does not exist, because as said before, mere clinging does not exist, so clinging to the erroneous or the truth relative to it does not exist. The second case is divided into three: not existing on the three supports, edge
