Because it is meaningless. Things do not arise from non-things, because they do not have the power to produce results. Likewise, if there are some non-things, do they arise from non-things or things? For this, non-things do not arise from non-things, because there is no distinction for fruitless things, and the cause of non-things has no power. Non-things do not arise from things, because they are directly contradictory. Likewise, things do not arise from themselves, because if the self is not established, it contradicts being a producer; if it is established, it contradicts being produced. Nor does it arise from others, because that would lead to everything arising from everything. Arising from both self and other does not exist, because it does not arise from each separately. Therefore, how do things arise? Because pervasive arising is not established, pervasive things are not established, and because that is not established, it is impossible to prove that arising and ceasing exist. The second part is divided into two: refuting by being too extreme, and refuting the defense against that fault. The first part is: if your own schools admit that things exist, then it contradicts the teachings of the Able One, and it will lead to the root of all faults—the views of permanence and annihilation. Because if that thing exists in the second time, it is permanent, and if it does not exist impermanently, it is annihilation. The second part is divided into two: even if continuity is admitted, it will fall into the fault of permanence and annihilation; and because continuity itself is not established, it cannot escape the fault of permanence and annihilation. The first part is divided into two: falling into both permanence and annihilation at the time of existence, and falling into annihilation at the time of nirvana. The first part is divided into two: falling into annihilation, and falling into permanence. The first part is: if the continuity that arises without interruption between the destruction of the cause and the arising of the effect is existence, then the substance of the cause will also fall into annihilation, because the substance of the cause does not arise again after it has perished. The second part is: if the thing of the cause exists essentially, then it will become permanent, because it is impossible for it to perish and become a non-thing. The second part is: that thing will definitely be annihilated at the time of nirvana, because the previous continuity of existence is completely pacified. The second part is: if the continuity of existence exists by nature, then the arising of the effect elsewhere

The first existence of connection arises from the cause, which is the last existence of this life, whether it has ceased, not ceased, or is ceasing. If, as in the first case, the cause, the last existence, has ceased, then the first existence should not arise, because there would be the fault of having no cause. If, as in the second case, the cause, the last existence, has not ceased, then the effect, the first existence, should also not arise, because in that case, one person would have to have two existences at the same time, leading to the fault of the former being permanent and the latter being without cause. If, as in the third case, the cause, the last existence, is ceasing, then the effect, the first existence, arises, then the cause that is ceasing is one existence that is in the process of ceasing, and the effect that is arising is another existence that is in the process of arising, so one person becomes two existences. If it is thought that the two existences of ceasing and arising are of the same essence, so there is no fault, if that is the case, if the two existences of ceasing and arising are not cognized together, then in any aggregate, the substance that will die will also arise, which is unreasonable, because the two are extremely contradictory. Therefore, in the three times of the cause, the last existence having ceased, not ceased, and ceasing, the effect, the first existence, does not arise, and if the continuum of existence cannot be cognized, then how can it be the continuum of existence? Because when examined in the three times, it is non-existent. Secondly, to explain by combining with the scriptures, the Blessed One also said: The three existences are like a dream, without essence, quickly destroyed, impermanent like an illusion, there is no coming and no going here, the continuums are always empty and without characteristics. And: Birth and death are also thus, without birth and without death, whoever knows this, it is not difficult to obtain this samadhi. Similarly, whoever knows these inconceivable dharmas, those people are always happy, there is no distinction between dharma and non-dharma, all are revealed by the play of the mind, all are inconceivable, all are unborn, things
