for the reason of. Third, refuting the view that origination and destruction do not exist: Origination, as a thing, how could it be that there is no destruction? Because it is a thing. This is pervasive, because for all things, impermanence is never non-existent, because ultimately destruction is seen. Fourth, refuting the view that origination and destruction exist simultaneously: How could origination exist simultaneously with destruction? If it exists, then the birth and death of one person would exist at the same time. But this is not the case, because like light and darkness, the actions of these two are contradictory. Third, summarizing the points: Thus, how could self-established origination and destruction exist? Because whether origination and destruction are established simultaneously with each other or not simultaneously with each other, it does not exist. Second, refuting by examining the finite and infinite: Furthermore, if origination and destruction exist, then they exist in things that are finite or infinite. For the case where things previously existed and are finite, origination does not exist, because there is a dharma that contradicts it, namely finitude. For the non-existence negation and non-affirmation negation of infinite things, origination also does not exist, because in order, they are without self-nature and already established. Similarly, for the case where things previously existed and are finite, destruction also does not exist, because it has already been destroyed and has no basis. For the non-existence negation and non-affirmation negation of the infinite, destruction also does not exist, because in order, they are without self-nature and contradict destruction. Third, refuting with reason without a basis: If the basis, the thing, does not exist, then its dharma, origination and destruction, also do not exist, because it is impossible for the dependent to exist without a basis. How can things not exist? If there is no origination and destruction as the pervasive cause, then the thing as the pervaded effect does not exist, because origination and destruction have been previously refuted. Fourth, refuting by examining emptiness and non-emptiness: Do these origination and destruction exist in things that are empty or non-empty by nature? If it is the first case, then for things that are empty by nature, origination and destruction themselves are not reasonable, because there is no basis. Like flowers in the sky. If it is the second case, then for things that are non-empty by nature, origination and destruction are also not reasonable, because it has been said that self-nature is not created by causes and conditions and does not change.

Therefore. Fifth, refuting one and different: If arising and ceasing exist by their own nature, is their essence one or different? If it is the former, it is not reasonable for arising and ceasing to be one, because they contradict each other like light and darkness. If it is the latter, it is also not reasonable for arising and ceasing to be different entities, because if they were different, arising would become permanent and ceasing would become causeless, and the two would not be confused with each other, hence they are interdependent. Second, there are two ways to refute the proof of self-established existence: refuting the proof of direct perception and refuting the proof of inference. First: What is the use of examining in detail whether arising and ceasing exist? Do you think that arising and ceasing exist by their own nature because they are seen by the direct perception of cowherds and others? This does not establish that arising and ceasing are real, because what cowherds and others see as arising and ceasing is like seeing a city of Gandharvas, which is seen as real due to the delusion of clinging to reality, even though it is not real. This is as stated in the Four Hundred: Just as the body and its powers reside in the body, delusion transforms into everything. Therefore, all afflictions are destroyed by destroying delusion. Thus, the consciousness in the continuum of an ordinary being who has not grasped the view of the Middle Way grasps everything it takes as real, so it establishes conventional truth. When objects such as vases and cloths are established as nominal truths, ordinary beings acknowledge real vases and cloths, while Madhyamikas acknowledge unreal vases and cloths. However, the vases and cloths that are not distinguished by whether they are real or not are accepted by both, and this is the establishment of nominal truth. Second, there are two ways to refute the proof of inference: stating the proposition and refuting it. First: If it is said that arising and ceasing exist by their own nature because their basis, the object, exists. The second has two parts: refuting by non-arising and refuting by extreme consequences. First: If an object exists by its own nature, does it arise from an object or a non-object? An object does not arise from an object, because a simultaneous cause does not benefit the effect, and the effect already exists as an object.
