Thus it is. The manner of teaching has been explained before. Third, showing the name of the chapter: From the "Commentary on the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way, the Light of True View," it is called "Examination of Aggregates," which is the explanation of the twentieth chapter. Second, refuting the view that time is the cause of the arising and ceasing of effects, in three parts: First, the connection of the chapter: Other schools believe that even though time is limited in this way, it exists by its own nature, because time is the cause of the arising and ceasing of internal and external effects. Thus, even if there are other collections of conditions, if certain specific times are not near, arising and ceasing will not appear. If so, in order to show that arising and ceasing themselves do not exist by their own nature, and therefore they are not established as causes, this chapter is composed. Second, the main text of the chapter is divided into two parts: First, establishing by reasoning, divided into two parts: stating the harm to the establishment of arising and ceasing by their own nature, and refuting the establishment of the proponent of establishment by its own nature. The first is divided into five parts: refuting by examining whether they are simultaneous or not, refuting by examining whether they are exhausted or not, refuting by the reason of being without support, refuting by examining whether they are empty or not empty, and refuting by examining whether they are one or different. The first is divided into three parts: stating the proposition, establishing the reason, and summarizing the meaning. The first: If arising and ceasing exist by their own nature, then they either do not coexist or exist simultaneously. If we examine it in this way, then ceasing does not arise, or arising and ceasing cannot exist simultaneously, arising does not cease, and ceasing cannot exist simultaneously. This is the proposition. The second is divided into four parts: First, refuting ceasing without arising: How can ceasing exist without arising? If it exists, then the difference between the two is that sentient beings die without being born, but this is not seen, and it becomes without cause. Therefore, ceasing without arising does not exist, which is the meaning of summarizing from the opposite side. Second, refuting the view that ceasing and arising exist simultaneously: How can ceasing and arising exist simultaneously? If it exists, then the death and birth of one sentient being must exist simultaneously, but this is impossible, because this phenomenon is not seen, and it will become without cause.
