If appearances are false, then what is the nature of suchness here? What is the method of entering suchness? The method of entering is to see with wisdom that the afflictions and sufferings of samsara arise from the view of the aggregates of destruction, and to realize that self-grasping is the object of the view of the aggregates of destruction, and to desire to eliminate self-grasping. This has already been explained in the "Entering the Middle Way," so here we will explain the nature of suchness, how it is taught, and its fruits. Those who compose commentaries, those who generate elaboration from elaboration, will be stopped by emptiness. The method of entering suchness, and the reversal of what is to be expressed. Below, explaining the nature of suchness is not very good, because in the commentary it says: Because internal and external things are not found, the grasping of internal and external as self and as mine, all ceases, this is suchness here. Entering suchness here is: all afflictions and faults are the aggregates of destruction, etc., the details can be found in the "Entering the Middle Way." Here, only the aspect of abiding is to be explained, so it is said. Second, for the treatise of the distinctions, there are two, the first is to establish with reasoning, there are three: the nature of suchness, how to teach it, and the fruit of teaching it in this way. First, there are three: refuting self and what belongs to self, the fruit of refuting it, and eliminating contradictions with the scriptures. First, there are two: refuting the self that is established by its own nature, and showing that what belongs to self is refuted by this. The first is: is the self that takes, the nature of the aggregates to be taken, or does it exist differently from them? If the aggregates are the self, then the self is subject to arising and ceasing and is multiple, because the aggregates are impermanent and multiple, and are inseparable from the nature. It is also not possible to think so, because it contradicts the other schools' view that the self is permanent and one, and according to one's own school, the agent and the enjoyer of the result cannot be on the same basis in an instant, and if it is multiple, then it contradicts the scriptures that say that only one person is born in the world. If according to the second view, the self is different from the aggregates,

If it is something else, since the five aggregates are accumulated, the characteristics of these accumulated things, such as birth, abiding, and destruction, do not exist, therefore it is said that the self is not real. Or, if the self is the individual characteristic of the five aggregates such as form, then it becomes an object that is essentially different from them, because it is different from the five aggregates. This is impossible, because no manifestation that is essentially different from them has been found. Secondly, in this way, how can the aggregates that are to be taken as "mine" exist, since there is no self of the taker? The second part has three points: By this, abandoning the grasping of the subject; by this, abandoning the debate; and the way to attain liberation by the exhaustion of grasping. The first point is that, in this way, the yogi, because he does not find the self of the taker and the "mine" of what is to be taken, and knows that the nature is peaceful, therefore, the grasping of "I" and the grasping of "mine" will not exist or arise, because the object of attachment has not been found, so it is the principle of knowing that the mind of attachment turns back. The second point is that, in this way, if someone says that because there is a yogi who does not grasp "I" and "mine", therefore "I" and "mine" also exist, then that yogi who does not grasp "I" and "mine" also does not exist, because the wisdom that previously prevented the self and the aggregates from being the same and different cannot find the yogi either. Therefore, for a yogi who has not yet been established as being free from the two graspings, if someone sees or thinks that there is a thing of a yogi who does not grasp "I" and "mine", then know that this person has not seen the reality. As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "Look at the inner self as empty, look at the outer transformations as empty, whoever meditates on that nature, that person is also not there at all." The third point is that, in this way, if the grasping of "I" and "mine" gradually arises for the aggregates that are included internally and the phenomena that are not included externally, then karma and afflictions will be exhausted. When these are exhausted, liberation and nirvana will be attained, because when these are exhausted, the four attachments of desire, view, ethical discipline, and self-assertion will cease, and because the four proximate causes of attachment are exhausted, there is freedom of existence.
